LAWRENCE (LARRY) LOCH
February 22, 1953 - January 7, 2022
Larry Loch passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Larry was a wonderful and caring son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. His early life was punctuated by his many friendships, some of which were beautifully attested to by his old friends in the days that followed his passing. Schizophrenia hit Larry in his 20s - his prime. He fought it with all he had, but in the end, the disease won out, effectively 'sentencing' him to a difficult and secluded life without his loving family around him. He will always be remembered by his family and friends as the gentle, kind soul that he was in those early years. By all accounts from those that knew him in his later years, glimmers of that person still showed up from time to time.
Larry was predeceased by his father, Max, mother, Dorothy, and brother-in-law, Gary Kravetsky. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Norma (Larry) Herstein and Rhoda Kravetsky. He is also survived by his nephew and nieces, Adam Herstein, Lesley Herstein (Brian Parker), Alix Kravetsky (Michael Kowalson), Lauren Kravetsky (Catherine Chapman-Smith), as well as his great-nephews and nieces, Leo, Caylie and Paige Herstein, Garrey Kowalson, Lev Kravetsky, and Mae and Hank Parker.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park with Rabbi Matthew Leibl officiating. Pallbearers were Jeremy Feuer, Adam Herstein, Larry Herstein, Aaron Kowalson, Michael Kowalson, and Monty Litinsky.
The family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary compassion and care extended to Larry by his guardian angels -Lindsay Lovallo of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Manitoba, Jonathan Klassen of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, the staff at The Salvation Army (180 Henry Avenue), and the doctors, nursing staff and chaplains of the St. Boniface Hospital.
Donations in Larry's memory may be made to The Manitoba Schizophrenia Society or The Salvation Army at 180 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg.

I AM BOTH SHOCKED AND SADDENED TO LEARN OF LARRY'S PASSING. I REMEMBER HIM FROM WHEN HE WORKED AT THE OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY IN 1971. HE WAS AN EXEMPLARY WORKER WHO WAS WELL LIKED BY ALL. HE HAD A WONDERFUL DISPOSITION AND GREAT SENSE OF HUMOUR. IT IS HEARTRENDING THAT SUCH A CRUEL ILLNESS INTRUDED INTO HIS LIFE. NEITHER LARRY NOR HIS LOVED ONES DESERVED SUCH A FATE. I AM JUST REMEMBERING HIS BEAUTIFUL SMILE. - Posted by: MARILYNN STEIMAN (OLD EMPLOYER) on: Mar 15, 2022
