KENNETH IRWIN SMITH

They say friends are the family we choose…
On February 9, 2022, I lost my best friend Kenneth Irwin Smith.
Ken grew up in Headingley and attended St. James Collegiate. After graduation, Ken enrolled in the Electrical Program at Red River College. Ken received his Journeyman ticket with McCaine Electric and worked his way up as a Field Supervisor, Project Manager and was Branch Manager at his passing.
Ken enjoyed playing hockey, camping and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loyal friend who was always willing to lend a hand.
Ken will be missed by all that knew him.
I will remember his laughter, his witty jokes, playing a round of golf, hanging out in the garage, or just meeting up for a quick coffee to catch up.
A best friend is someone who drops everything at a drop of a hat to help or just to listen, and who never asks anything in return, who pats you on the back and says everything will be ok.
Ken was that person to me.
I thank you Ken, it's been an honour to call you my best friend and will miss you greatly.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Kenny's passing. He worked as my apprentice when I was at McCaine Electric. We had a great work relationship and I often referred to him as radar. He always knew what was supposed to be done next. We also spent time in Red Lake doing the very first KFC/Pizza Hut in Canada. Kenny was truly a great guy to work with. - Posted by: Ralph Herzberg (Workmate) on: Apr 29, 2022

  • I am so sad to hear of Ken's passing. My husband and I were friends for years with his parents Margaret and Irwin who have also passed. We have great memories at Grand Beach of the Smith family and loved them all. I would really like to hear from Christine the daughter - another very painful time for her and my heart goes out to her. - Posted by: Judy Lynne Warnock (Friend) on: Mar 23, 2022

  • Vern, I am so very sorry you lost your best friend. Ken will always have a special place in my Heart, as he will in yours. - Posted by: Colleen Frederickson (Friend) on: Mar 22, 2022

  • So sorry to learn of Ken’s passing. I worked with Ken for about five years at McCaine Electric and always enjoyed the time we spent planning the annual Christmas party. When I left McCaine for a job with the WRHA in 2008, I was posted at the HSC campus and would occasionally bump into Ken when he stopped by to visit different building projects that McCaine was involved with. My deepest sympathy to his family. - Posted by: Cheryl Pearson (Former Co-Worker) on: Mar 22, 2022
