STELLA MERIE

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Grandmother, on March 9, 2022, in Kelowna, BC.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Irene Merie (Bob), Jackie Powell (Ron), granddaughter Jade (Dilon), brother Bob Leslie (Adele), and former son-in-law, Jim Powell. She will be remembered by nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents, Howard and Bader Leslie and brothers, Norman and Stanley.
Mom was born on April 26, 1931 and spent her formative years tending to the Leslie family farm in Fort Whyte, Manitoba. While the work was hard, Mom told stories of the fun times they would have. Many will remember Mom as the beautiful face that welcomed you to the Ramada Inn in Winnipeg, where she worked for many years. Later, Mom embarked on a second career in real estate. In 2000, she retired to Kelowna.
Mom was a woman of strength, raising two daughters on her own at a time when single parenting was not very common. Her greatest pride was in the accomplishments of her two daughters. One of Mom's greatest joys was the birth of her granddaughter. She cherished the times they spent together.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd. in Winnipeg. (Livestream link https://youtu.be/QrwYiRjG5-Y). A private gathering of friends and family will also be held in Kelowna at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mom's name to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • So sorry for your loss. Always think of the times when I lived in her house on Glengarry Drive. May the peace of God be with you all and give you strength at this time. - Posted by: BarbaraBaxter (Friends ) on: Apr 09, 2022

  • Our heartfelt condolences and thoughts to Irene, Jackie and families. We were neighbors to the Leslie family in Oak Bluff as our dairy farm was just down the road. We were also friends at the Oak Bluff school many years ago. There are so many good memories of Stella. I remember during noon hour at school that Stella would play the piano beautifully in the basement auditorium and us kids would learn how to dance as she played for us. She was a beautiful pianist! Respectfully, Joyce Dusik and Bossuyt families - Posted by: Joyce Dusik (former neighbor) on: Mar 22, 2022

  • My heartfelt condolences go out to Irene and Jackie. Seeing Stella's picture brought so so many beautiful memories of my friend at the Ramada Inn. She certainly was the face of the Ramada as many will remember. Rest in peace my dear Stella. - Posted by: Terry Lambert (Friend) on: Mar 20, 2022
