Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I went to elementary school with Miriam. They lived on Irving Place at the time, but soon after built their new home on Appleton. I hung out with her for several years. Spent a lot of time at her house as well. One of my fondest memories was of the two of us commandeering one of the garbage cans that were in the garage and turning into a “house” for the field mice we used to catch in the field. The development was still new at that time and it was still mostly open field. I was at Miriam’s house one day after school when we heard a scream coming from the garage! We were busted! Her mom had found the stash of mice! Miriam’s dad had her and I go to all his apartment blocks to collect the money from the washers and dryers, and we got to keep all the change that missed the box!! I seem to think we “borrowed” more than what had actually missed the target lol. We fell out of touch as we both went different paths after high school. I left Winnipeg in 1994, but had the opportunity through my hubby’s work to transfer to Winnipeg in 2018. I did try to connect with her, and I knew she had taken over the family business, but I never heard anything. So sorry to hear of her passing!! She was a good friend and we had good times as kids! My condolences to her personal and business families ❤️ - Posted by: Sharon Panneton (Friend ) on: Nov 29, 2022

  • Thank you to Edison Properties for their tribute to Miriam. You captured a part of her life that was very important to her. There were many, many nights that she would worry about the well being of the whole Edison family and individuals. I hope that the Bergen Family Legacy will continue to be respected and recognized for their support of their Edison Family and the causes they believed in. Their names and legacy need to be honoured at all Edison sponsored events. Love to you all, Louise - Posted by: L. J Redekop (life partner) on: Mar 31, 2022

  • I remember Miriam very fondly. I worked for the Bergens during the early 1980’s as the chef at Merteens. It was a pleasure working for Miriam as she was very involved with the restaurant and we got along very well. When it was time for me to move on Miriam gave me a teddy bear as a parting gift. Looking back I wish I had kept in touch with her. I know she was loved and will be missed. So sad to hear of her passing. - Posted by: Keith Tod (Former employee ) on: Mar 19, 2022
