LYDIA KISIL
(nee MICHAYLOW)
January 17, 1935 - March 17, 2022
It is with much sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lydia Kisil of Winnipeg.
She is survived by sons: Gerald (Jocelyn), grandchildren, Yuri and Dinah; Donald; Ronald, grandson Scott Tocher; sister and brother-in-law Jennie and Donnie Smith; as well as niece Diane, cousin Terri-Lynn and numerous friends and neighbours.
Lydia was predeceased by her father Marko, mother Motra, brother Wesley (Lillian), nephew Larry, and the father of her children, Mike.
At a young age Lydia developed a love for cooking, and she had a natural talent for making delicious food for family and friends and at the places she worked. Her perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, meat pies and other dishes were second-to-none and were enjoyed by many families in Winnipeg, Canada and the U.S. Lydia worked up north at Gillam, in Northern Ontario and retired from the University of Manitoba kitchen as a valued employee and cook. From a young child, Lydia was always a very hard worker, conscientious, and knowledgeable. He food will be missed by many families during the holidays and at their special family events.
During her lifetime, Lydia had many major health issues. She had a heart attack, triple by-pass surgery, many hernia surgeries (from lifting heavy pots and containers during cooking) and survived them all because she was a fighter and wouldn't give in to these "bumps" in the road, as she called them. In recent months she developed a severe breathing problem and suffered immense discomfort and pain but this time she couldn't win.
As were her wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no official service. A celebration of her life at a future date.
Our sincere thanks goes to all the doctors, surgeons, nurses and health care workers that helped her through difficult times in her lifetime.
Lydia was always a very loving and caring person to her family, neighbours, friends and she will be missed immensely.
Lydia, God bless you. We love you with all our hearts and always will. Go now - rest free of pain with Mom and Dad! You will be missed by many.

I am so grateful that I had a friend and mentor in Lydia. I learned the hard way but the right way on how to prepare platters as her prep cook at the Vasa Lund.
