CONSTANTINA SOUSA
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Constantina Sousa, on March 23, 2022.
Constantina was born December 25, 1924, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and was predeceased by her husband of 45 years.
Constantina is survived by her children, Cesar (Juevantina), Maria (Durval), Emily (Bernie), and Joe (Diane); her grandchildren, Brian, Jason (Riley), Sean, Elizebeth (Rod), Jenny, Adrian (Kayla), Lily and Jackson; as well as her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hixon and Henzo.
Like countless other people, Constantina left her home in Sao Miguel for a better life in Canada in 1960 without speaking a word of English or knowing the customs of her new home. With Cesar and Maria in tow, she crossed the ocean and half a continent to her new home in Canada where she put down roots for her family, and thrived in spite of the surprise of the first Manitoba winter. Constantina will be lovingly remembered for always making sure visitors and family were well fed before leaving her home. She was also a master lace crocheter, having made countless doily sets while contentedly watching her favourite soap operas or cooking shows.
The family would like to thank Constantina's dedicated home care attendants: Barb, Charito, Lemlem, Naan and Roza, as well as Dr. Shirin Singh for the kindness and care during her last years. The entire family would like to acknowledge the time and sacrifice of our sister / Aunt Emily who mom lived with, and was her primary caregiver for the last 20 years of her life. Emily's knowledge of medications and bloodwork is impressive. Mom's life was filled with love and the fiercest advocate for her healthcare. Thank you, Emily.
Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 341 Munroe Avenue, at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, with tea service afterwards and interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street, West St. Paul.
In lieu of flowers, please forward donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Heart and Stoke Foundation.

Emily and I work together. I have seen Emily's dedication to her Mother particularly in the last 2 years as we have faced the additional problems that Covid has caused especially with health care. May your Mother rest in peace. - Posted by: Brian Klaponski (Friend) on: Mar 30, 2022
