ANNETTE STEFANY GOUGEON
(nee HALASIS)
December 30, 1940 March 23, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Annette, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Denis, her children, Daniel (Tanis) and Monique (Glen) and her grandchildren, Mathew and Eric Gougeon, and Mila and Madan Frolek, as well as family and friends.
Annette was predeceased by her parents, Alex (1973) and Anna (1982) Halasis, and her siblings, Morris Halasis (2003) and Marie Koranicki (2004).
Annette was born in Winnipeg, MB and raised in the Fort Rouge area. She married Denis in 1965. In 1970 Daniel was born, and in 1971 Monique. She was a homemaker until 1980, when she went to work for her sister and brother-in-law, establishing herself as everyone's favourite cook at Eddy's Place. Annette subsequently dedicated her life to feeding others. Her career came full circle when she co-purchased Eddy's Place in 2012 with her son and his spouse. Annette was always on her feet, until she retired in 2017.
Annette was a person that encouraged patience, understanding, and forgiveness. She was devoted to her family, friends, and work. She had a special place in her heart for her husband, children, grandchildren, and her pets. She was sentimental and had many collectibles. She loved playing bingo, attending concerts, visiting her children's cabins, and trips to Las Vegas.
A special thank you to the family and friends who stayed connected with Annette over the years, especially the last month.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral will take place at Saint Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford St., Winnipeg, MB on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 10:45 a.m. A reception will follow at Eddy's Place, 669 Selkirk Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Our condolences to the entire family, we share in your grief and in your loving and fond memories of a wonderful person. In her memory I will "just for today - go out of my way to be especially kind to someone else, be truly gentle and caring and possibly helpful, to share a laugh and just be comfortable as a compassionate human as was my Aunt". Perhaps it could become a habit? Uncle Danny - we are with you in spirit and for any time you need to reach out. - Posted by: David Claeys (Nephew) on: Apr 02, 2022

My heartfelt sympathy to Denis, Daniel, Monique and their family on the loss of Annette. Annette and I used to go to Bingo at McPhillips Street Station every weekend and we had a blast. We talked, laughed and ate and gambled and closed the place down at 3am. We had good times and made lots of friends over the years. Going to miss you my dear friend. It was with a privilege to have spent quality time with my favorite Aunt when I was a very young boy. Periodically I would leave my family home and take a long bus ride to my Aunt Annette and Uncle Denis' home just to be with them and to serve them the best way that I could at that young age. Both of them were like second parents to me and my favorite aunt spoiled me with Toby's Pizza, special conversations about family and friendships. She honored me and respected me as a young member of her family. I felt safe in her company and she always prepared dishes for me, took me to the beach and always loved and cherished me. Her unconditional love and spontaneous laughter warmed my heart and still does to this day. I am older now and truly believe this is not the end for her but a new beginning in a special place free of pain and suffering where she will make even the heavens joyous with her love and laughter. Thank you dear Aunt for always loving me and loving all those who you touched with your warm and gentle spirit . Be blessed in your new home in heaven. - Posted by: Gregory Claeys (Nephew) on: Mar 30, 2022
