LEIGHTON (TONY) GOLDSMITH STEELE
February 1, 1935 - March 27, 2022
With sadness we announce the passing of Tony Steele in Fredericton, NB. Tony was born in Detroit, MI, and was an English Professor at University of Manitoba for three decades. He was a poet and a lover of the arts.
Tony is survived by his children, Larry Steele (Colleen), David Steele (Wendy), Jenny Gerbasi (Guy), Melissa Steele (George), Holly Steele, Jacob Steele (Laura), and stepson Gisaya Gahungu (Caroline). He leaves behind eight grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is predeceased by his sister Allison Levy, partner Marylea MacDonald, and dog Shaolin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.

I don't know what to say except Thank You Very Much Professor Steele. I was a student during a summer class back in the 1980s. You taught me to read literature and to see literature as more than just words on paper. I learned that there is depth to what I read.
