MARION ELIZABETH ALLEN
(BRADFORD)

Born August 3, 1939

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Marion Allen announce her peaceful passing on March 30, 2022, at Riverview Heath Centre in Winnipeg Manitoba. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by family and love.
Marion is survived by her husband Raymond Allen; sons: Robert (Susan), Ted (Kathi), Leonard, Thane (Patti), David and her daughter Rowena Slater (Derrick). She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren which brought her great joy along with many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many friends, neighbours and the puppies that she always had treats for on her walks.
Marion was born in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick and was the youngest child to Effie and Theodore Bradford. She met Raymond Allen in 1954 and on May 6 of 1955 she married the love of her life. In 1964 they moved to Winnipeg with their six children. Marion spent the majority of her work life at the Winnipeg Arena catering events and running the cafeteria on the second floor. After retiring from the Public Safety Building cafeteria, she volunteered with the food bank. Marion and Ray loved spending time outdoors. They greatly enjoyed time spent at their seasonal camp sites at Birds Hill Camp Grounds. In their latter years they could be found walking or scootering through the gardens at Assiniboine Park and along the river. Marion was a well known "grandma" to many children in the neighbourhood and loved her daily walks to Tim Hortons to meet with her friends and enjoy a cup of tea.
The family thanks the staff of Riverview Health Centre and the Palliative Care teams that made it possible to make her last months happy and pain free.
We are respecting her final wishes not to have a funeral service.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Marian, Marian, Marian, knowing you, you went out with a smile. You always had a smile for everyone you saw. You could always make some comment that would make most if not all laugh. We may not have been close friends but were TOPS Buddy friends. For the many years (10+) we shared time & space at our TOPS meetings I always looked forward to seeing you walk in. You always carried and shared your ray of sunshine were ever you went and now, through your children, grand children, great grandchildren and many, many friends, you have left lots of sunshine to be shared. Every day I see a ray of sunshine I will think of you. My condolences to her husband Ray, their extended family and especially to Rowena and Patti. - Posted by: Mary Ann Loeppky (TOPS Buddy & friend) on: May 20, 2022

  • I knew Marion for only a few years. I admitted her to the Golden West Adult Day Program and had the absolute privilege to see her every week until we closed due to Covid. Even though the physical program was closed she enthusiastically participated in our teleconference programs. She was a joy to work with and she always knew how to brighten the day. I received many cards from her for holidays, just random hello cards during the pandemic and was so very encouraging of me when I finally decided to get my drivers license. I’m so grateful I had the chance to know her and I know all of her friends for the program feel the same. Marion will be very much missed but she will never me forgotten. - Erin Osborne - Posted by: Erin Osborne (Day Program coordinator ) on: May 16, 2022

  • My sincerest condolences to the Allen family for the passing of Marion (my friend Libby). It was a lot of years ago that I met the family but I will hold the memories of her most wonderful laughter and incredible sense of humour in my heart. She accepted each new challenge head on, stood proud through difficult and trying times and worked hard to make a family with Ray. Makes my heart happy to know that they had so many grandchildren from their many wonderful children. Libby rest in peace and I know you will have things sorted by the time the family arrives. Peace and prayers as you mourn her loss. Kym - Posted by: Kim Dorn (Friend of the family) on: Apr 11, 2022

  • I met Marion and Ray at a church she attended. We bonded and kept in touch even while she became ill and home/hospital bound. It was a pleasure to observe her loving relationship with Ray. I constantly commended them as "two special peas in a pod". I will miss calling her up, extolling the goodness of God; even singing and praying with and for her. May Marion REST IN PEACE and her family, especially Ray, Rowena and Derrick (through phone contact) all be comforted to know she was loved as she loved. Blessings and all best wishes as you grieve...Rest in Peace Marion!!.....Jean W. - Posted by: Jean W. (Church friend.) on: Apr 06, 2022

  • I will be forever grateful to have been able to spend time with my mother before her passing and to my sister Rowena and her husband for accommodations while I was in Winnipeg last fall. I will miss our phone calls every few weeks; you will always be with me in memory. You and Dad are the perfect examples of what a marriage is all about. Over 67 years together through thick and thin. May you Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Ted (Son) on: Apr 05, 2022
