ELSIE DOREEN BUSS
(SCHMULAND)

September 1, 1934 - April 1, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt, Sister and friend on April 1, 2022.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 67 years, Gordon, her children, Sharon (Ed) Lommen, Kimberly (Tony) Nardella, Douglas (Loreen) Buss; precious grandchildren, Carey (Stacey), Felicia, Samantha (Clayton), Tirrell (Danielle), Ashton, Alexander (Bruce and Bradford), Crystal and Paige; great-grandchildren, Ezra, Trey and Danette, four sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, two brothers, her infant twins and her parents.
Mom was born in Green Bay (Beausejour) Manitoba. When she was 16 she moved to Winnipeg to work at Eaton's mail-order. Mom married the love of her life on August 14, 1954. She was a stay at home Mom until Doug started university and then went to work for the River East School Board until Dad retired in 1992. Mom loved her family. She loved to entertain with family and friends and would cook the best feasts. She loved to garden and do her crafts. She was a member of the Dufferin Seniors Centre where she helped organize and participate in the making of perogies, serving the perogy lunches, playing bingo and dancing to the old time music at the Saturday Dances. She loved to travel and explore the outdoors. They camped at many campgrounds in their 16' Vanguard trailer and travelled across Canada and the US with their slide-in trailer. In 1994 they purchased the 5th Wheel and made a 52 day trip up to Alaska taking the ferry from Skagway to BC and then back home. They made many trips to Arizona to spend the winters. She loved the cottage on Lee River that was purchased in 1986 where they spent 30 years enjoying family and friends, having sing songs around the camp fire, tending to her garden or going blueberry and saskatoon picking. She also enjoyed many trips to Hawaii, Cancun, Dominican Republic and their boat cruise to the Bahamas.
Elsie's family sincerely thanks the doctors, nurses and staff of the GH7 and GH6 wards at the Health Sciences Centre for all their hard work and care.
In accordance to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elsie's memory to Grace Lutheran Church (gracelutheran.ca), 211 Kimberly Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 0X3, or a charity of one's choice.

  • We were neighbours on Bronx Ave for several years. We absolutely adored Elsie. She was very generous with her garden which we thoroughly enjoyed! We in turn shared our flowers from our lilac tree from which she took a sampling and planted at the cottage. We met up with them for lunch on occasion after we moved to Emerson. They even made a day trip out to Camp and brought us lunch. We also had a home in Mesa, and were able to meet up at their relatives for an afternoon of fun. Absolutely one of the nicest Ladies! She will be missed. Sincere condolences to Gord & all his Family. Rest In Peace Elsie! A life well lived!
