IRMA HARLAINE ARMSTRONG
October 20, 1927 - March 25, 2022

Irma Harlaine Armstrong (nee Boyd) passed away on March 25, 2022 aged 94. Harlaine was born October 20, 1927 on her parents farm near Foxwarren, Manitoba.
She received her Bachelor of Arts from Brandon College in 1948 and her teaching certificate from the University of Manitoba in 1950. She taught school in Winnipeg's North End and in the country until her marriage to Norman Armstrong in 1955.
She and Norman raised their family in Winnipeg and enjoyed gardening, travelling and their time at the cottage at Victoria Beach. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005.
Harlaine is survived by her children, Hugh, Elaine and David (Linda) and her grandchildren, Chloe, Tessa, Simon, Olive, Matthew, Zane, Grace, Mia and one special great-grandchild Matilda as well as nieces and nephews.
Harlaine excelled at growing flowers and enjoyed Chinese food, lunch at Cora's, the Sound of Music and any Harry Belafonte song. She loved children and animals and they loved her. Her smile and sparkling blue eyes will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of William Albert House in Emerald Park, SK for the care and compassion they gave to Harlaine during the last years of her life.
There will be a private interment service in Winnipeg in the summer of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be pleased if you would make a donation in her name to your local animal shelter or Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • The Armstrong's were one of the other young families living on Lanark Bay in the 60's. I have fond memories playing together in the "Park" with Elaine, Hughie and David and Mrs. Armstrong's hot dogs chips at special events! One of the saddest events of my early life was moving away in 1967, although Elaine, David and I ended up in the same High School some years later and I remember a few more times with hotdogs at the Armstrong's after that. The last time I saw Mrs. Armstrong was when I spoke at the funeral of a common neighbour in 1990. It was lovely seeing she and Norm at that time. Even though I was then in my 30's I think that I still called them Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong! Blessings to Hugh, Elaine and Davie as you share the loss of your dear mother. Rest eternal grant unto Harlaine, O LORD: and let light perpetual shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen. Your friend Mark+ - Posted by: Rev. Dr. D. Mark Davison (Neighbour) on: Apr 09, 2022
