SHIRLEY ANNE GREEN
(nee MCDOUGALL)

With great sadness we announce the passing of Shirley, loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Shirley passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Shornecliffe Hospice in Sechelt, BC on the evening of March 21, 2022.
She leaves to mourn: sons, Vincent Charles, Joel Edward, and David William; granddaughter Anais Casselman-Green; daughters-in-law, Amber Casselman and Tamara Green; as well as many close sister friends. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Anne Mcdougall (2001).
Shirley was born October 8, 1942 in Winnipeg, MB. Leaving Winnipeg in the mid 1960s to Belleville, Ontario and Ottawa respectively, before moving to Calgary briefly in the late 1970s. Settling back to Winnipeg in 1980, Shirley worked for CIBC and later with her son Joel at his hair salon, Oxford's Hair in Design, as bookkeeper for 20+ years.
Retiring from her work and finishing with her home stay University of Manitoba students, Shirley moved from her home at the Summerland Apartments in Winnipeg to the seaside at the Watermark buildings in Sechelt, BC in May, 2019.
Shirley flourished in her years in Sechelt, quickly expanding her loving group of sister friends, creating and nurturing many deep connections through her love for card playing, knitting and reading.
Her passion for knitting allowed Shirley to create cherished pieces of clothing worn by her family and friends. She passed these skills and knowledge onto her granddaughter, Anais, who carries on her work. Shirley spent time over the past decade knitting clothing and blankets for women and family shelters both in Winnipeg and Vancouver, where she hoped her knits would bring warmth to those in need.
Shirley shared her love of reading and stories with those close to her. Trading and gifting books to anyone who showed interest, hoping to bring joy and quiet reflection in the stories she gave.
Her pierogi recipe will live on in the hearts and stomachs of all that sit with the family to eat and come together. She loved to cook and take care of her people utmost in this way.

THE DIVINE WEAVER

My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me;
I cannot chose the colours
He worked steadily.
Ofttimes He weaveth sorrow
And I in foolish pride,
Forget that He seeth the upper,
And I the under side.
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why
The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern he has planned.

The family would like to give special thanks and love to all of Shirley's medical staff during this past year. In particular, the palliative nursing staff at Shornecliffe Hospice in Sechelt, BC for their love, care, and compassion they gave and shared with Shirley. These moments did not go unnoticed.
As per Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private memorial, spreading her ashes in Sechelt, Tofino, and interring her with her parents in Winnipeg, MB.
Donations to Sechelt Hospice Society or your local Women's shelter are appreciated in memorial.

XXOO see you later Shirley.
