GEORGE DAVID MACKAY
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George MacKay on March 30, 2022, at the age of 82.
Born in Winnipeg and raised on Ashland Avenue, George attended Kelvin and Churchill high schools and spent his summers at the family cottage in Victoria Beach. In 1986, he purchased "The Barn" in Traverse Bay, MB, which he loved dearly and called home until 2021.
He is survived by his wife Shari of Mexico Beach, FL, his son David (Lezlee), daughter Lorraine (Donald), sister Allison (Graham), and grandsons, Mitchell, Dylan, and Liam, all of Winnipeg; sister Margaret of Portland, Maine, and brother Don (Val), of Surrey, BC.
George's father was born in Scotland, his mother Swan Lake, MB. George was very proud of his Scottish heritage, and a trip to Scotland was always on his bucket list. He was kind and generous to his family and friends, and he was always the life of the party. You could always be sure of a fun time when in George's presence. George began his professional career in sales with IBM. He later became the Winnipeg branch manager at Simplex Time Recording. In the 1980s, he formed Life Protection Inc., which initially dealt with security alarm systems. Eventually, Life Protection's focus became developing safety equipment for fall protection and confined space retrieval. This product line, Uni-Hoist, took George all around the globe, working with various companies and customers who helped him further develop his products. George's positive attitude and strong work ethic contributed significantly to his entrepreneurial success. Uni-Hoist is still being manufactured today.
As per family wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of George's life is planned for this summer.
We thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for the care given to George in his last few months.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
George's presence on this earth will never be re-created, and memories of him will fill our hearts forever. Until we can be together again, we will miss him every single day.

So sorry to read of George passing. We were in Room 6 together for grade 11 during the first year Churchill High School was open. I was not from Riverview but was sent there because my uncle Norris Belton thought the new environment would do me good. It didn’t, but I made some great new friends and George would be at the top of that list. Fun, loyal, accepting, sincere and kind. George was all of that and more. My condolences to the family and friends. Barry Smith - Posted by: Barry Smith (Former class mate) on: Apr 11, 2022
