LESLIE MAY LATER
(née CHURCHILL)
She did it her way! Our strong, determined and very private sister, wife, mother, and grandmother lived her life on her terms. Leslie died February 11, 2022 with family by her side. Sjögren's Syndrome ravaged her body over 20 years and in the end she just wasn't strong enough to continue.
Before her went her sons Noel and Jeff, husband Cam and her four legged companion of many years, Lucifer (Luigi if it was was spaghetti night!).
She adored her five grandchildren, Hailey, Ryan, Emily, Noel and Weston. She was a tough competitor in tennis enjoying many years of fun and competition at the Wildwood Club. She was a dedicated and supportive hockey mom for all her four boys through the years. Leslie loved her work at Dakota High and organized many career nights and Christmas tree lot sales for at risk youth. She had a quick mind and wicked sense of humour.
She will be missed by her family: sons, Andrew (Sarah) and Steve, Carrie, her brothers, Kevin ( Anne) and Ron (Terri).
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital who cared for her and Leslie's very supportive neighbours Kim and Connie who helped enormously in her last months.

I too, remember her wonderful laugh, her determination, her spirit and feistiness. I knew Leslie from her school days in Duncan, BC, playing field hockey, tennis and many mischievous antics together. I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and her losses over the years, and am grateful for her friends who supported her through this road of life. May her grandchildren carry on the same zest for life with laughter and a kind smile. Life is just way too short. - Posted by: Susan Chaworth-Musters (School friend) on: Feb 22, 2023

I knew Leslie when she was at boarding school together in Duncan, BC. Leslie was feisty and fun loving and we played together on the school hockey team. She would sometimes call when she was back on the coast for a visit, so I knew she had a large family of boys in Winnipeg, but we had not seen each other for years. In planning a trip to Winnipeg this Easter I remembered Leslie and thought I would get in touch. I am so sorry to hear she is gone, and send my condolences to her family for your losses these past few years. I too will remember her for her laugh and strong spirit. - Posted by: caroline penn (School friend, Queen Margaret's School 1965-67) on: Feb 22, 2023

I am saddened that I did not find this sooner. Leslie and I dated in school. After she and Cam married she spent many years trying to line me up with the perfect mate - and Cam went along with great good humor. The characteristic that I remember about Leslie was that she would always be positive no matter what difficult things might be happening in her life or those around her. Indomitable spirit. Always remember your first love. She was so beautiful. - Posted by: Ken Ball (Friend from high school and University) on: Jun 14, 2022

Leslie and I played tennis together at the WLTC. We played tournaments and it was always fun and competitive. My fondest memory of Leslie was she loved to be "out and about" as Cam used to say. When Leslie was "out and about" she would call me on her car phone. We covered many subjects and I loved to talk to her. We are very sorry to hear of you loss. - Posted by: Penny and Bill Rannard (Friend) on: Apr 15, 2022

I always remember Leslie as a go-getter. She was heavily involved in Sports throughout her high school years at Kelvin and was great at it. She was very friendly to new people - not lost on a transfer student arriving in Grade 11. She will be missed! - Posted by: Catriona Younger (nee Gannon) (High school classmate) on: Apr 13, 2022

I worked with Leslie for many years at Dakota Collegiate. I loved her laugh (and there were many). How she convinced you to work the tree lot by putting you on warm days only and how much she cared about the students and community. I will always think of you fondly. - Posted by: Sharri Bertram (Former Collegue) on: Apr 13, 2022

As a VP at Dakota Collegiate I got to work closely with (let’s be honest….FOR! ) Leslie in all of our initiatives to make Dakota a vibrant learning community. Her efforts in organizing the many events school & community related were highlights of my time at Dakota. Black & Gold Society, Seniors Night, Christmas Kids Party, Open House, the incredible time spent with Christmas Tree lot. But most of all when we decided to rethink our HS Graduation ceremony & put 150 kids on stage to celebrate. I recall that there was always a ‘conversation’ when I dropped by the Community Liaison Office …usually with a starter ‘Leslie I’ve got an idea…’ ….& the look on her face!!!! - Posted by: Denis Granger (Dakota Collegiate ) on: Apr 13, 2022
