ALVA PHILIP ROCKE
November 19, 1947 - April 11, 2022

A devoted and adoring husband, our dear father, a dear friend, a man who had a never-ending smile and twinkle in his eye. Alva Rocke's passing is one that leaves an indelible and long-lasting legacy. His lessons and spirit inspired those around him. His selflessness and devotion to his family were limitless.
He is matched in all of these qualities by our mother Charlene. Their love and marriage of 50 years are an inspiration to his children, Natalie, Damian (Jillian), Ethan (Tracy), and Lindy. But the pride and joy of his life were his 11 grandchildren! Whether walking them to 'Papa's' after school, attending events, taking the time to visit - Papa always had jelly beans or a treat for his grandchildren and he went out of his way to make them feel special and loved.
Alva had 10 siblings, including spouses and an exponential number of nieces and nephews. Each of you shared a special and unique love with him. He loved you all immensely and unconditionally. The remarkable journey you all shared from childhood, growing up in Trinidad, each of you building incredible families of your own - the common denominator being your incredible mother Camsee and father Lenny. Sharing such strong values including integrity, devotion, passion, we are blessed to be surrounded by your love and feel his presence through you.
For his many friends - Alva welcomed everyone with his inviting smile. He was warm, welcoming, and generous. He always found a way to connect - to ask about family, to provide one with a sense of care and interest. He also found a way to ensure you had a full plate and a full glass!
His character and way of life was immense, and we are deeply saddened that he is gone. He was one of a kind! We will cherish the love, guidance, patience, and kindness you gave us forever. We love you Alva, our dad, our Papa - may you rest in eternal peace!
A funeral mass celebrating Alva's life will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with reception to follow.

Condolences & Memories (30 entries)

  • It was a very sad day when I was informed of our friends passing. What a great man, a devastating loss. Please except my deepest sympathy to Alva's family. For over 20 years I had the pleasure of working for Alva and the crew at FGFT with various welding applications. When Alva retired we still had conversations from time to time. One of my last times seeing Alva was a visit with him at there home in Charleswood. A cold beer and great conversation but when I was getting ready to leave, Alva asked if he could play a song on the piano for me. It blew me away, just another talent that he had and never knew. I will cherish our last visit and keep it close when ever I think of our friend. Rest in piece my friend, you will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Marcel McIvor (Welding supplier for FGFT/Friend ) on: May 04, 2022

  • My condolences to Alva's family. I worked with Alva for 20 years from 1987 to 2007. When I think of Alva I remember he had so many little saying for different conversations like "the tail doesn't wag the dog" for example. Also the time he had to shave his moustache off due to an upper lip injury from the brake arm hitting him. He was always willing to show people how to do things weather it was work related or not. He gave me advise many times when I had home construction projects. His passing is too early, again my condolences. - Posted by: Stu Harrison (co-worker) on: Apr 18, 2022
