DARLENE MEILLEUR
(nee SANDERS)

Darlene Meilleur was a loving mother, stepmom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She left the world peacefully on April 10, 2022.
She was born to Vera and Jack Sanders on June 18, 1941 in Dauphin. She held a variety of jobs, among her favourites were working as a fundraiser for Books for Kids and cashier at Dollarama in St. James.
Her proudest role however was being a mom to her beloved Brandee, who tragically passed away at age 37. If there is some comfort, it's knowing the two of them - who could light up a room with their laughter - are reunited.
Darlene was always down for fun, from dancing to playing cards at the kitchen table late into the night. She always had at least one pet, from a spider monkey, to a crotchety chihuahua, and too many cats to name.
She is survived by sisters, Verne and Yvonne (Don); and will be missed by dear friends, Pat, Carron and Phyllis (Gary); nieces and nephews, cousins, and those she made special connections with over the years.
Special thanks to niece Melanie (Claude) who offered care and support to Darlene always but especially through the end of her life, and stepdaughter Sherrie who was also by Darlene's side in her final days. Great-niece Melissa provided Auntie Dar great comfort by taking in her cherished cat Dolly.
A small family service will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I am not family by blood. But I am family by heart and soul. I met Darlene when I was in grade 4....the teacher arranged the desks two facing two...she was across from me.  From that moment she was my bestest friend. Due to my circumstances in my childhood Darlene became a second mother to me. There is nothing wrong about Darlene....no flaws in my opinion. Everything she did... her spirit...her energy... her VIBE, was just absolutely AMAZING! A force to be reckoned with! I tried to touch base with her at least once a month...she is my Jo momma as she was to so many others....she looked forward to emails as I did hers. Her daughter's 7 year anniversary of passing was yesterday so I reached out to Darlene in an email and I didn't receive a response in the timely manner that she usually responds to me. I knew right away something was wrong. Oh Darlene I love you so much Jo mama You were the strength I needed when I had none you're the mother that at that time in my life I wanted to have. You were such a support to me, you loved me so much. I take comfort in knowing that you have joined Brandee and your husband.... I know how trying life has been for you and that no matter what life has thrown at you you have just superseded it did more than what anybody else would do. I love you Jo' mama I'll never forget you and I know you're walking with me when I need you I love you so much xoxo - Posted by: Kristen Poole (Family) on: Apr 27, 2022

  • Dear Darlene was a treasured friend for close to 50 years. Sadly/unfortunately a few yrs ago we fell apart. (that was my doing. I was in a dark place of my life and was not able to come to terms) . Dar loved all of her children deeply but Brandee was the light in her life. They were such a close mother and daughter. Dar loved all of her family and friends and was also a loving devoted daughter to her Dear Mother. She never, ever missed sending a card for birthdays and all special occasions. She was always there for others with love and a helping hand. She also so loved all animals. We shared so many happy times as well as times of sorrow. She and Brandee spent many hot summer days at our cottage in Ponemah. 'Teddy' our cockapoo always slept in bed with Darlene. 'Teddy' just wouldn't have it any other way and Dar loved him so. Her kindness and caring knew no boundaries. She will be so greatly missed by so very many. • Darlene was so much a loving part of my life. I stayed many a night on my way to or from Roblin and usually did the all night cards or a trip to the casino. Her smiling face kind and loving ways are forever in my heart and the treasured memories that always make ones life richer. God bless and keep you in his loving presence always my sweet auntie and friend. Always remembered with love xoxo - Posted by: Cherryann McKay (Cousin) on: Apr 23, 2022
