ANNE ZAHARA
August 30, 1925 - April 16, 2022

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that daughters, Lori and Donna announce the sudden passing of their beloved mother on April 16, 2022, at the Grace Hospital. She was 96 years of age.
Anne was born August 30, 1925 on the farm near Bruno, Saskatchewan, to Nick and Mary (née Smood) Thoms. She is survived by her sister Helen Palchinski, brother Frank (Jean) Thoms, sisters-in-law, Olga Thoms and Rita Thoms, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her husband Joseph, parents, Nick and Mary Thoms, brothers, John, Peter, Ernest, and Roman Thoms, and brother Roman in infancy, as well as sisters-in-law, Jennie Lofstrom and Mary Marr, brother-in-law Mike Zahara, and nephews, Derek, Gerard, Brian, and Eugene Thoms.
Anne was very active in the St. Joseph Church Women's League and a long-time parishioner. She was outgoing, kind, generous, and loved to cook, bake, entertain, and welcomed everyone to her home. Anne was also known for her beautiful fruit arrangements and creative nature. She got along with everyone she met.
Funeral Liturgy will be on Saturday, April 23, 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church on 250 Jefferson Avenue. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made for a memorial mass.
Mom, we love you and will miss you until we meet again. Chloe, our beloved dog, misses her Nana!

Forever in our memories!

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We were sorry to hear of Anne's passing. She was a kind, friendly lady who always made everyone feel welcome in her home. She loved her daughters and always appreciated their presence. This neighborhood will feel her loss as Anne was one of the first of many original neighbors to live in this area after it was developed. Rest in peace Anne.... - Posted by: Phyllis German (neighbor) on: Apr 24, 2022

  • My condolences to Anne's family. A few years ago I was very fortunate to have some very pleasant conversations with Anne while driving her for church liturgy. She spoke very proudly of her two daughters and the lovely ladies of St. Joseph's Ukr.Catholic Church. A well deserved rest.
