MARGARET (PEGGY) JOSEPHINE BRODERICK
(RYAN)
November 27, 1932 - April 15, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peggy on April 15, 2022. At the age of 89 years, Peggy was released into God's arms with her devoted family by her side.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William (Bill) Broderick; parents, Charlie and Annie; her brothers, Jimmy and Paddy; and sisters, Annie and Rose.
Peggy will be forever remembered by her seven children: Pauline (Peter), Albert (Lynda), Laura, Mary, Karl (Julie), Annette (Danny) and Siobhan; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her sister Phyllis.
Peggy was born in Dublin, Ireland where she met and married the love of her life, William Broderick. Together, they immigrated to Canada in 1966, two weeks after the 'Great Blizzard' but ties to the home country always remained strong. They settled in Transcona where they raised their family and were active in community affairs. Peggy loved her home and remained there until a few days before her passing. Her positive outlook, resilience and fortitude inspired all who knew her.
"You have to have a reason to get up in the morning" was Peggy's mantra. She lived a life of purpose. Whether singing in the church choir, organizing the St. Patrick's celebration that brought food and entertainment to Transcona Seniors, or crocheting thousands of hats to keep "someone warm when they need it most", she served her community in numerous ways. As an active and longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, she made many lasting friends. Her Sunday School students kept in touch with her as adults and reminded her of the impact she had on their lives. Hers was a generous and loving spirit.
Peggy was a vivid storyteller and recreated her experiences around the kitchen table for family and many friends, but her happy place was in the garden where she spent many an hour making her house a summertime landmark.
She was a proud mother and grandmother. Family was everything to her and she took pride in all our accomplishments. She will be sorely missed.
Cremation has taken place and the family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. The family would greatly appreciate you leaving memories of her in the Condolences section of the online obituary.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

We were heartbroken to learn of Peggy’s passing. She embodied the idea of community and we will miss talking with her on the front steps or on the driveway, sharing garden tips and inspiration. Our kids loved her stories, especially learning about Ireland and going to the pub with her father and the troubles her brothers would create. She loved her family so much and never stopped sharing her pride in them whenever we met. She will be very missed and our heartfelt condolences to her entire family during this time of loss. - Posted by: Naomi and Darren Kruse and family (Neighbours) on: Apr 23, 2022

My deepest condolences to the Broderick family. Sioban was a school friend of my husband Dan. I met Mrs. Broderick when she came to the salon where I worked (Shearly Unique) some 30 years ago. I had the pleasure of doing her hair and was lucky enough to hear the magic in that beautiful story telling voice as she lovingly spoke of her family. The angels are the lucky ones now. Rest in Peace Mrs. Broderick. - Posted by: Theresa Plischke (Former hairdresser...some 30 years ago sShearly Unique hair salon in Transcona) on: Apr 23, 2022

Sad to hear this news from Al. Mrs. Broderick always welcomed me into their home. She made the best Yorkshire Pudding. Growing up we sat around the table for tea many times, biggest pot I’ve seen! The Broderick family are in our thoughts during this difficult time. She definitely lived life and you have many memories to help you through. Transcona lost another great one. - Posted by: Tom Vickers (Friend) on: Apr 23, 2022
