YIP CHUN WU
Yip Chun Wu, aged 96, of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022 at the River Park Gardens nursing home in Winnipeg. Yip Chun was born on February 5, 1926 to Gwong Fook Wu and Fung Mei Chow in Hoi Ping China.
After living in Hong Kong with the family for a few years in the 1950s, he left for Mexico and subsequently worked in the United States as a chef, which became the choice of his career. He returned to Hong Kong in 1968 to stay with his family for a few years until December of 1971 when he and his family emigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg.
He had a great passion for Chinese history, Chinese literature and poetry and spent plenty of his free time reading. He enjoyed writing and his writing skill was well respected by his circle of friends. This particular talent of his led to his position as the secretary of the Gee How Oak Tin Benevolent Association of America Winnipeg Chapter.
Yip is survived by his wife Shui Wah; his children, Terence (Angela), Alice (Frank) Wong; his grandchildren, Roselle Wu (Christian Duhme), Gabriel (Rachel) Wu, Victor Wong, Joyce Wong (Kelvin Miu) and his four great-grandchildren, Markus, Emily Duhme, Elsie and Stella Wu.
A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Yip Chun to the charity of one's choice.

Mr. Wu, as I’ve always called him since he moved into the facility where I work, has known my name from day one. He only had to hear my voice and knew who it was right away. I will always remember him. - Posted by: Marcia (Caregiver) on: May 03, 2022

Mr. Wu was a very gentle and kind person who spoke very softly. He came to watch us playing soccer and joined our social family gatherings. He was very knowledgeable in many areas and was very easy to be acquainted with. Even though he was Terry's dad, as in our Chinese culture, we respected him as he were our father too. It is our loss and we sure will miss him. Our condolences from our family to yours.
