ANNE JEAN GRAY
(SKURA)
Anne Jean Gray passed peacefully on April 15, 2022, in Winnipeg at the age of 91 years.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Sharleen), Kathie Partridge (Kevin), and Bruce (Vanessa Arrojado); her grandchildren, Collin Partridge (Wynne), Leanne Lutomsky (Justin), Amy-Leigh, Geoffrey (Chelsea), Hannah, Emma and Nicholas; her great-grandchildren, Caden, Amara, and Kiera. She was predeceased by her husband Don as well as her parents, Harry and Mary, her brothers, Joe, Mike, Frank, Paul and her sisters, Bessie and Rose. She also had a brother and sister who predeceased her as infants.
Anne was born as Annie (Hanusha) Jean Skura on June 25, 1930 near Arborg, Manitoba. She lived her early years on the farm, doing many chores while enjoying her family. Anne attended a one room schoolhouse near the farm until grade eight and then pursued her high school education in Arborg and Teulon.
Anne then moved to Winnipeg for administrative training at college and worked for Air Canada and the Royal Bank. While at a social gathering in Winnipeg, Anne spotted a handsome man, Don Gray, and after some matchmaking by mutual friends they soon fell in love. They were married on July 25, 1959, created a beautiful family, and were blessed with 61 years of marriage because of their love and commitment to each other. Anne's unwavering kindness, support, concern, and compassion were deeply valued.
In 1964, they moved to Treherne, Manitoba busy with two toddlers and a third to follow soon after. Anne managed the home while supporting Don in their electrical business. In 1976, Anne restarted her professional career, serving Manitoba's Department of Agriculture where she made many fond memories with colleagues. Anne retired in 1993 and enjoyed the extra time to travel, taking up a newfound love of golfing and getting together with friends and family. In 2011, Don and Anne moved back to Winnipeg where they often visited new and old friends, and spent more quality time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Anne was an active congregant of the United Church where she led Sunday school and youth groups in early years. She also was a dedicated member of the local TOPS club. She also enjoyed caring for the lilies and other beautiful flowers in her garden; sewing clothing for the family, and her grandchildren's dolls; crafting; scrapbooking; making pies, cookies, and preserves; creating oil paintings and writing stories of her memorable times. Anne formed many lasting and cherished friendships over her life and had many warm memories of her roommates, neighbours, coffee chums and other friends.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she never stopped worrying about whether they were safe and fulfilled in all their pursuits. The grandchildren loved the time at Grandma and Grandpa's where they could explore and creatively play surrounded by Grandma's loving and nurturing warmth.
Anne was driven in life by the sacrifice, resilience, faith, and care for others that her parents instilled in her. She will always be remembered as a caring and compassionate person.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Chapel, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg.

Anne was a beautiful person and a very unique friend given the difference in our ages. A very special confidante - we shared our life experiences with each other and I drew wisdom from her much wiser knowledge and experience. Family was everything to Anne and she often proudly spoke of their many accomplishments. Anne was a humble, classy lady. I am going to dearly miss our phone chats. Rest In Peace. 💕 - Posted by: Kim Poschenrieder (Friend ) on: Apr 25, 2022
