Margaret Wishnowski, age 90, died peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, surrounded by her family.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her children, John (Toni), Allan (Donna), Brenda (Drew), Bruce, and Rosanna (Paul). She will be forever cherished by her grandchildren, Brittany (Stephen) and Ali, Hannah and Chelsea, Karli and Katie, and Brent and Blaine. Also left to mourn her passing are her close cousins, Violet Orbanski and Judy Tait, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Walter Wishnowski, sisters-in-law, Jean Baziniak and Edna Wishnowski, family members in Iceland, and close friends. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Victor, parents, John and Johanna Bjornson, parents-in-law, Adam and Mary Wishnowski, and sisters, Anna Hook (Jim), Joan Joyal (Dennis) and infant sister Brenda.
Margaret lived her entire life in Riverton at Lundi on the Icelandic River. She grew up in the house built by her father, near her Amma and Afi, and many cousins. She described her childhood as being "glorious and magical", treasuring her memories of times also spent with her family while her dad was fishing at Barney's Point. She and Victor went on to raise their own family in this house that she loved.
The family would like to thank Dr. S.V. Patel, her daughter-in-law Donna Wishnowski, and all of the staff at the Gimli Hospital who cared for her with such kindness and compassion.
Those who wish to donate in Mom's memory, may consider selecting one of the above mentioned organizations, as well as The Bear Clan Patrol or The Salvation Army which were very dear to her heart.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Riverton Lutheran Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverton Hall.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Margaret. I have an abundance of respect for this wonderful woman. Memories of her subbing when our teacher was sick and serving us young hockey players hot chocolate and hotdogs after our tournaments flood my mind. Bless you and rest in peace Margaret. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Ron Whiteway (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2022

Margaret was a very hard hardworking lady both in and out of the home. She was a sweet and gentle lady, whom I met, through her beloved sister and my dearest friend, Joan. Many was a time, I was invited over to Joan’s in St Andrews, when Margaret was visiting. We bonded over our name, Margaret! We were happy and proud, to share our name!! We drank gallons of coffee while chin-wagging,turning Joans house, in to a “blue-hue”, of cigarette smoke!! Yup, those were the days!! Eventually, circumstances & distance, separated our friendship. However, we were able to resume a few visits while watching our grandson’s play hockey, in Gimli. During those times, we would shed a silent tear, over the loss of Joan, then back to current events. After all, there was a hockey game, in progress. On a final note, dear Margaret, Rest In Peace. On behalf of me and my family, deepest condolences to the Wishnowski family. Warm wishes, much love and prayers, sent to hold your family during this time of grief. May God Bless & love you, Margaret Spakowski and family (I am unable to attend the funeral, due to health issues) - Posted by: Margaret Spakowski (Family friend) on: Apr 26, 2022

Margaret was gentle, soft spoken and kind to everyone. She did not see differences in people. No matter your status in life, she treated you as a friend. Margaret will be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Lawrence and Joan Tymoshchuk (Family friend) on: Apr 25, 2022

Margaret will always be remembered as a wonderful, caring and kind person. But I think she will be best remembered for her book on train stories in which she documented a special time when the CPR train played such an important role in the history of Riverton. Rest in God's care Margaret. Lawrence Romaniuk - Posted by: Lawrence Romaniuk (Friend of the family) on: Apr 25, 2022

I will always admire and cherish Auntie Margaret. She was an inspiration to so many. She always seemed to be busy either with the community or family. She was always surrounded by love from her beautiful family and friends. May you find comfort in knowing that the Lord has prepared a beautiful home for her. She will continue to be surrounded by the love of the family and friends. - Posted by: Erna Wishnowski (Niece) on: Apr 23, 2022

There was a reunion in the Riverton Hall a few years back where Margaret shared her scrapbooks from her days teaching. I will never forget seeing all the valentines from her students over the years, including my Dad's. We often heard stories of the one room school house Dad and his siblings attended, and their cousin Margaret, the teacher, who was barely older than her students. Margaret remembered everything and would call Dad every year on his birthday without fail. We were all sad when her phone call did not come this year. Margaret was a dear soul and she will be missed and remembered by all our family. Our sincere sympathy to all of Margaret's family. - Posted by: Audra Szczepanik (Eastman) & Family (Cousin) on: Apr 23, 2022

Riverton has lost one of the best people who lived here on earth. Margaret was a model of love, compassion and generosity until her very last moments with us on earth. Margaret made a great difference in the lives of many people. Margaret was always so involved in everything happening in our community, and always so positive even in negative situations. Lloyd and I always had a special place in our hearts for Margaret. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Rest in peace sweet Margaret. You were loved and admired by so many! - Posted by: Lloyd & Jeannette Roche (friends & former teachers) on: Apr 23, 2022
