RUTH MAY MCKNIGHT

Our dear mother Ruth May McKnight (nee Millar) passed away peacefully on April 21, 2022, at Deer Lodge Centre.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Harry McKnight and son-in-law Stephen Boyce, as well as her parents, five brothers and two sisters. She will be missed by her daughters, Eileen (Ronnie), Carolyn (Harry), Deborah and son Geoffrey, as well as her grandchildren, Simon, Jamie, Timothy, Leah, Jenna, Arran, Sarah and Crawford and her nine great-grandchildren.
Ruth was born on October 21, 1925 in Winnipeg and lived on Harbison Avenue. She married Harry when he came from Northern Ireland to Winnipeg. They then went back to Northern Ireland where they lived and raised their children. Ruth returned to Winnipeg after Harry passed away in 2001, to be with her children who had immigrated to Canada.
Ruth was a gentle soul who enjoyed knitting, baking and doing her word search puzzles. She was an expert in knitting Aran sweaters and donated much of her knitting to the Childrens' Hospital.
During her 80s, before her illness, she loved to travel and had two trips to Ireland and then to Palm Desert, Victoria and Florida.
She was very adept on her iPad and regularly FaceTimed her family in Ireland and spent many hours on Netflix and playing her games.
She loved her summers and more recently enjoyed trips closer to home visiting family and outings to Assiniboine Park.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff and volunteers at Deer Lodge Centre for the wonderful care they gave her.
A service will be held for Ruth at North Kildonan United Church on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Vaccination and masks required.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation or a charity of your choice.
