KATHERINE THIESSEN
(nee WIEBE)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Thiessen (nee Wiebe) on April 3, 2022. She departed peacefully in her sleep at Bethania Care Home after a short illness.
Kathy was born on February 21, 1926 in Arnaud, MB to Nicolai and Antoinina Wiebe. She also spent time living in Winnipeg and Cooks Creek. She was married to her husband Richard for 69 happy years. Kathy worked for years as a secretary at First Mennonite Church and for decades she spent each summer tending to a huge vegetable garden. Their home was filled with laughter and love.
Together, Kathy and Richy embarked on many trips, including wilderness canoeing and camping. Being fluent in four languages meant she could act as interpreter while visiting countries like Russia, Ukraine, Germany and Uzbekistan. Richy and Kathy loved to sing together and even recorded a CD of their favourite songs in their 80s.
She leaves behind her son Randolph Thiessen (Linda), grandchildren, Nina, Julia, Emily and Sarah Thiessen, and Lara McCabe as well as other family. She was predeceased by her husband Richard, daughter Ionna Thiessen, siblings, Louisa Loeb, Peter Wiebe, Evelyn Dube, Valentina McDermid and Ron Wiebe.
As per her wishes a cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned at First Mennonite Church at 922 Notre Dame on May 6 at 11:00 a.m. Ashes to be interred at Brookside at a later date.

We are sorry to learn of Kathy's passing and have fond memories of both Kathy and Richy. Many years ago when a group of us were out cross country skiing the weather turned stormy so Ionna suggested that we drop in to see her parents. Kathy and Richy soon disappeared into the kitchen and a short time later they announced that dinner was ready. We sat down to an unexpected, but very delicious meal and had a great visit. Over the years, whenever Ionna was in town, we enjoyed visits and funny stories at Kathy and Richy's apartment. Farewell to two wonderful people. May Lara and all of the family treasure their memories. - Posted by: Jim & Bunny Paci (Friends) on: Apr 30, 2022
