FRITHJOF (FRED) SEIDEL
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad on April 25, 2022.
His memory is held in love by his surviving children, Linda (John), Sandra (Randy) and Brian (Sue-Jean); grandchildren, Merrick and Carter. Also left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Erika and Liselotte.
Fred was predeceased by his wife Evelin and eldest daughter Karin.
Fred and Evelin immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1957. Electrician by trade, Fred had the good fortune to work for the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC). He worked as a cameraman for 17 years and then moved into the role of mechanical maintenance, where he stayed until he retired. He was the network's and our family's "Mr. Fix It." He was always taking things apart and putting them back together. Fred had a passion for cameras and watches, owning many of both. He was always busy fixing watches for other people.
Fred and Evelin had the good fortune to meet Moe and Joyce Smith just after arriving in Winnipeg. Moe and Fred worked together at CBC and became best friends. Some of the best memories they had were from when they all spent the winters down in Harlingen, Texas. Fred and Evelin shared a passion for travel and this was one of many places they went to.
Fred met a lovely lady, Helen, late in life. They spent much time together and would talk every day. She became a part of his family. He was very blessed to have her as a companion.
Fred was a friendly, jokester individual and was always laughing and smiling. His daughters were told by many people at his last residence that he was well liked. They would describe him as a sweet, gentle man.
Thank you to Lilliane on 2E at Extendicare Oakview Place for the attentive care she gave our Dad and family. She was a friendly face every time we went to visit. The family would like to recognize a very special nurse, Jinky, that made his final days so peaceful and comfortable. She provided exemplary and compassionate care in Dad's last days.
It brings the family great comfort that Fred is reunited with the love of his life, Evelin and they are dancing up a storm in heaven.
Donations can be made in memory of Fred Seidel to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
Dad will be placed alongside his wife at a private family ceremony. Anyone wishing to pay their respects can do so at his final resting place located at the Lasting Tribute Chapel at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of your father. He was a very good friend to my mom and dad over the years, Joe and Inge Tismer. They too immigrated from Germany about the same time. I knew Fred as a very young child myself. He and Evelyn came to our home and we to theirs. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Gabriele (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2023
