DEREK LOWE MCKAY
April 14, 1947 - April 26, 2022

A man with a big heart left this earth to join his beloved wife Suzanne.
He leaves behind his son Shawn/Naomi, stepson Michael, sister Rowney/Ben, brother Carter/Debby, nieces and nephews, Shane/Janet, Vicky/Darryl, Brenda/Gopal, Michael/Danielle.
Derek was predeceased by both parents and his brother-in-law Rod.
He worked for Canadian Pacific Railway for 25 years and became a conductor towards the end of his career. He loved to tease people but was always very giving. He enjoyed all sports (hockey, bowling and golf). Later when he was forced to stay home he loved the shopping network and what a time he had with that.
Big thanks to the 6th floor staff at the Misericordia Hospital. Special thanks to Carol for all she has done, also special thanks to Paul.
In compliance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Derek impacted our lives in so many ways, you will be missed.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I worked many years with Derek at CP Rail. He was fun to work with and was a good leader too. We had many shifts together in the past. I considered him a mentor at work and a friend. I last saw him in the early summer of 2021. I think he was on a electric scooter having fun ..we talked about the old days it was good! God bless you Derek and may you rest in peace brother!...MJB - Posted by: Mike boux (Old work buddy) on: Sep 04, 2022

  • I bowled with Derek in several 5 pin bowling leagues at Windsor Lanes from the mid 70s to the mid 80s. We were teammates for a few years in the Windsor Tuesday Mixed League. I have a great memory from the early 80s of being on a team with Derek in the Winnipeg Mixed Team championships. We won the championship led by Derek who averaged almost 300 over 4 games. He was an outstanding bowler and a great guy. My condolences Carter and the rest of Derek's family. - Posted by: Craig Hancock (Old Friend) on: May 07, 2022
