BARBARA NANCY KOLODIE
(aka Kolodie Brave-Woman)

January 2, 1942 – April 8, 2022

Kolodie, as she was known to her friends, was a light on this earth. Her love of nature, beauty, water, trees brought joy to her at every turn. Raised by a courageous and intelligent mother Elizabeth with her five siblings. Winnipeg Beach was her first home and, after a short time in Winnipeg, she set forth on adventures few have known.
Early years careers in radio, television, advertising and stewardess. Summers she did children's programs with crafts and outdoor programs. Later on she taught English at the Chinese Consulate and travelled to Korea and China. Kolodie's love for people and art was vast, and many of her paintings are of Indigenous Peoples, as her best friend Jeannie Campbell placed it in her soul.
Kolodie has her posse of friends who were the joy and light of her life. Patsy, Anne, Gunvor and many more. Kolodie's sister-in-law Maureen has been her rock and connection to family for years. Kolodie loved her nieces and nephews, and her nephew Mark was very close. She lived for many years in English Bay where she peacefully passed with family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings, Gayle, Marjorie, Richard and Bernard (Bud), and survived by brother Grant and son Brock.

  • Our deepest heartfelt condolences go out to all the Kolodie family, especially to her son Brock, at this very sad and stressful time upon the loss of such a wonderful Mother, Sibling, Sister-in-law, and Friend. For all of you, the memories you have of Barbara Nancy, her image will always shine in your hearts when you think of her. - Posted by: Laurie Russin (Family Friend) on: May 25, 2022

  • As a child, I admired Barbara Nancy; she was my confident cousin and she made visiting at the beach fun and exciting. As a adult she always seemed to be exploring different and interesting careers. Then she aged into Kolodie Brave Woman and more so lived her life to the fullest. Kolodie will be dearly missed by me and by many. - Posted by: Lois Doig (Cousin) on: May 14, 2022

  • Auntie was as independent a person you will ever find. Her love of nature and her kind soul always made an impression on me. She truly danced to her own beat and I always admired her for that. Her love for her nieces and nephews and all our children was alway evident. She will be missed but I am certain she is dancing up a storm in heaven with her family and friends. - Posted by: Kristjan Thorsteinson (Nephew ) on: May 11, 2022

  • Our paths crossed when we were kids long ago. I remember the Beach Boardwalk, Roller Coaster, Water Tower and Riding Stable. Memories of Barbara are hazy but I have never forgotten our brief summer friendship. A friendship with lasting effects. To the family I offer my sincere condolences. - Posted by: Garry Harland (Friend ) on: May 10, 2022
