GERT BORCHARDT
Gert passed away at the Pinawa Hospital on April 27, 2022.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Edie and Sigrid (Rick); grandchildren, Chris (Tracy), Kim (Karl), Angie (Mason) great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hayden, Emily, Lauren, Adrianna; his sisters, Gisela and Ingrid.
Gert was born in Ragnit, East Prussia on December 3, 1930. He came to Osterholz in northern Germany as a refugee in 1945. There, he met the love of his life, Erna, and they were happily married for 67 years until her passing in 2018.
In 1956 they immigrated to Canada. He was employed by Maple Leaf Mills shortly after he arrived, and worked there until he retired. His favourite job came after retirement where he worked for Natural Resources maintaining the campgrounds on the Winnipeg River.
He always had a love of nature and found the perfect place for this in Pointe Du Bois. There were many happy times at the cottage fishing, hiking, and singing with the family around the fire. He particularly liked spending time up at Uncle George's cabin. After retirement, they built their home in Pointe. These were the happiest times of their lives. Everyone was always welcome at the house, whether for a fish fry or just a beer and a shot.
Music was always a part of his life. We will always remember singing carols around the Christmas tree. He was also a great dancer. He made big splash on the dance floor with Erna, especially the tango.
The most important thing to him was his family and he treasured the time he spent with them. He will be greatly missed by friends and family, but we will all cherish the happy memories.
We would like to thank the staff at Pinawa Hospital for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Wildlife Federation or a charity of your choice.
A private service will be held at Friends Funeral Service.

I worked with Gert from 1977 - 82. I was in the management side but worked closely with Gert. He was grateful for the five years that I was there and many years after I’m sure. He often talked to a Point Du Bois. He always had a kind word and great humput. Over the years I often though of him with fondness. Truly a great guy and awesome coworker My very deepest condolences.
