DENNIS MICHIAL TRONIAK
March 10, 1951 - May 2, 2022

On May 2, 2022, Dennis Michial Troniak, devoted husband, father, uncle and gigi, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at St. Boniface Hospital.
He is survived by his children, Shauna (Kevin), Jon (Diana), and Daniel (Jill), his sister Shirley (Steve), his brother Eric (Cindy), and his grandchildren, Xenia, Leo, Lucas, Annika, Jade, Theodore and Danielle. He was predeceased by his parents, John Troniak and Lena Troniak (née Ferens), and Laura, his beloved wife of 49 years, who passed away earlier this year.
Dennis lived a life guided by strong core values and a sense of purpose. He built a law practice, first in Portage la Prairie, and later in Winnipeg, representing those who needed someone on their side. Family always came first, and he was a proud dad and doting gigi, whose grandchildren were the apple of his eye. In his later years, he was able to travel extensively and spend many winters with Laura in Arizona. Laura was his true love and soulmate, and we take comfort that they have been reunited.
A memorial service will be held for Dennis and Laura at Little Britain United Church in Lockport, MB on June 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dennis' memory can be made to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I worked opposite Dennis and Laura--they were definitely a team-- on residential school files. He was a great advocate for his clients and a good lawyer and he played the other side like a hand of poker. We had a great working relationship. My condolences to his family. • I was so shocked to hear that Dennis had passed away. I just found out today. We went to school together from grade one. We had a little partnership where we did eavestroughing together for a time. If it wasn’t for the Troniak‘s I wouldn’t be in the eavestroughing business that I’ve been doing for 50 years now. My heart goes out to the family. I would love if Shirley or Eric could give me a call I would love to talk. My no.is 204 223 4809 - Posted by: Rick Chomiak (Lifetime friend) on: Jul 07, 2022

  • I met Dennis and Laura last summer while I was canvassing in the Luxton neighbourhood. They were so generous even though we had just met. It turns out that my mom went to school with both Laura and Dennis and remembers them both fondly. I'm grateful to have met both Dennis and Laura and even though it was brief, it had a lasting impact on me. I am so so sorry to hear about Dennis passing so soon after Laura passed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of their loved ones. Both my mom and I will be making donations to the NCTR in their memory. - Posted by: Melissa Chung-Mowat (Neighbour) on: Jul 05, 2022

  • Dennis faced the stresses and challenges of practising law with two advantages: a big smile and a big cigar. He was not a bombastic lawyer, but rather a gentle, soft-spoken man who cared deeply for his clients but also had time to share a great story or at least a good joke with family or friends. We will miss him. Our deepest condolences to the entire family. - Posted by: Doreen Penneys and Eugene Szach (Friends) on: Jun 27, 2022

  • I was not aware of Dennis's death until today, so my message of condolences is unfortunately late. Dennis and I co-operated with our legal practices in the eighties. We were both sole practitioners, Dennis in Portage and me in Winkler. As our areas of work were different, we used each other for referrals and assistance. I always enjoyed working with Dennis and welcomed the help he provided on some of my work. My condolences to the family, especially on losing both Laura and Dennis so close together. - Posted by: Gary Gilmour (Colleague) on: Jun 18, 2022

  • We are deeply saddened by Dennis’ passing. Dennis was a wonderful and caring person, with a terrific sense of humour. When we visited Laura and Dennis, they were wonderful hosts; always putting on a delicious meal for us. We will miss them dearly. Our deepest condolences to their family.
