GERTRUDE HARRISON
May 20, 1934 - May 3, 2022

Peacefully, with family by her side, Gertrude passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 87 years.
Gertrude is remembered by her son David (Susan), daughter Nanci (Ken), granddaughter Cherise, sister Del, as well as nieces, nephews and friends across the world. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Stan, who we know has been busy fixing things and getting everything just right for her arrival.
Mom spent most of her working life as an operator with MTS. After retiring in 1997, she, dad and Del became world explorers, travelling to far-flung destinations and always returning with a few new friends and stories of adventure. Summers were spent at the cottage in Matlock making memories with family and friends that have become the stuff of legend. Winters were spent in California with Del, which became like a second home, and where she developed many close friendships.
Mom had an irrepressible joie de vivre. Even in the face of her cancer diagnosis, she never stopped enjoying life. We will always remember her for her ability to make friends wherever she went, her love of laughter (and a good prank), and her enjoyment of animals and nature.
As per her wishes, a private celebration of her life and a family interment has been held.
We thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their kindness, compassion and care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the World Wildlife Fund in Gertrude's memory.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • On behalf of the Keith and Verna Campbell family, I would like to convey our most sincere heartfelt condolences to Gert & Stan's family. We just recently heard of Gert's passing after my Mom had made several unsuccessful attempts at contacting her. As children growing up I looked forward to the visits with your family in Winnipeg, at your cabin in Matlock or at our acreage in Stonewall. I will always remember the kindness your parents showed me when they allowed me to park at your home when I was attending nursing school practicum at HSC. Take care, Suzanne. - Posted by: SUZANNE CAMPBELL (family friend) on: Oct 06, 2022

  • Gert was laughter and when she faced the ultimate adversity, she was pure strength. Gert and Stan together were sheer joy and the affection people had for both was affection well invested. I would have loved to have seen Gert traveling. I can't imagine a better ambassador for Canada and probably our species. To her loving family who were so fortunate to have her, I didn't know her well enough or long enough. My loss. Can't imagine yours. • Our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Gert's family and friends. We are thankful for having known Gert and Stan through our visits at each others cottage. Ours at Glen Bay and theirs at Matlock. Anna also worked at MTS as an operator. They would see each other at the operator yearly luncheon reunion. We miss them both but they remain in the memory of our minds. Although missed, they will not be forgotten. Sincerely, Anna and Tony Zienkiewicz - Posted by: Tony & Anna Zienkiewicz (friend ) on: May 07, 2022
