GLADYS MAE GUDMUNDSON (EASTMAN)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gladys Mae Gudmundson at the Arborg Personal Care Home on April 30, 2022.
Gladys leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 59 years, Robert; her children, Jennifer and David, Jason and Kirsten, Erin and Kory; grandchildren, Erik (Melissa), Karl, Nik, Bobby, Ellie, Mattias and Colby; her sisters, Margaret, Irene and Rosemarie (Roger) and brother Buddy; in-laws, Florence, Doris and Joan (Allan); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Halldor and Herdis; grandson Kristjan; brother Dori; in-laws, Pat, Sandra, Steini, Emily, Inga, Joyce, Lillian, Oscar, Walter, Leonard, Paul, Kjartan, Alice and Oli.
Gladys was born in Riverton, Manitoba on May 9, 1939, the third of six children in the Eastman family. She married Robert on July 14, 1962. They made Arborg their home where she was active in the church and the community. She was an educator and taught at Island School and Arborg Elementary School. Later, she was a stay at home mom and worked as a manager at Sunrise Lodge.
Gladys will be remembered for her wonderful smile, her generosity, her acceptance of everyone and her amazing baking. Her door was always open and the coffee on.
Her love, her faith in God, her kind and caring personality made her unforgettable, which is why it was so hard to watch her slowly forget as Alzheimers set in over the last 18 years. Although the disease that took Glady's life was cruel, her dignity was safeguarded by the staff at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre and the Arborg Personal Care Home.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28 at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church in Arborg, Manitoba at 1:00 p.m.
It was a long goodbye. We will miss you dearly Glady, Mom and Amma.
