• Uncle Lauge had such a kind heart and generous soul. When I was a kid, I remember going on camping trips, learning Ukrainian words, hearing stories of his work with the City of Winnipeg and how he lost his finger (not sure if it was true or not lol). I was about 23 the first time I ever heard him referred to as Walter. I always knew him as Uncle Lauge and it was quite a shock. As an adult, both uncle and auntie Maureen were always there when we needed them. Words can't express the huge impact he had on my sons life. They took Edward on many great adventures and introduced him to hotels and cabins. I will never forget Edward as a little boy walking me down the same path that uncle had taken him on days before to put a penny on the train tracks in Winnipeg Beach. • Uncle Lauge (Walter) was a wonderful Uncle. He and Auntie Maureen took our family, Steve (Jake) and Mom Frieda along with myself ( Carol) and Bob to Riding Mountain Park one summer. It was a wonderful holiday! Uncle Lauge and Uncle Norm would visit our family often as my Dad took ill early in his life. Uncle Lauge let me use his car for my driver's test. He also let use it to run errands when I was getting married. Uncle Lauge has a big smile and a new story to tell about his work at The City of Winnipeg. He joined in often with Uncle Norm with all of us kids (cousins) in playing games in the back lane with one pin bowling. I remember running to the grocery store to buy him a pack of cigarettes and he let me keep the change so I could buy some candy. He and Auntie remembered us at Christmas with presents! I thought Uncle Lauge looked a little bit like Kirk Douglas!!!! I will miss him. I remember him getting ready for a date with Auntie Maureen. He used a lot of hair spray! Haha. He was a kind person, always hospitable and loved Auntie Maureen so completely. She was the love of his life.
