WALTER SAHAN

Walter (Lodge) Josaphat Sahan, K.S.C.
1927 – 2022

Peacefully called by the Lord on May 8, 2022. Lodge is survived by his loving wife, Jean, of 68 years; daughter Christine (Philip), son Mark (Laura); sister Terri; granddaughters, Mel (Trish), Katryna, Kaelyn and Talia; great-grandchildren, Emma, Hayley (Sarah) and Brandt; nephew Christopher; niece Susan; grandnephews, Jamie and Jason. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Ahafia; brother Nicholas; sisters, Mary and Ollie; brothers-in-law, Doug and Frank; niece Sandra; nephew Dennis.
Lodge was a lifetime member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and served as a Sacristan for many years. He was a member of the Apostleship of Prayer, an SSMI Associate and former Knight of Columbus.
Lodge's involvement with the Immaculate Heart of Mary School (formerly St. Nicholas School), a project to which he devoted all of the time he had left after his job and family responsibilities, earned him a papal medal, "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice," He was also honoured with the Order of the Knight of St. Gregory.
Lodge was selfless. He was devoted to his family and friends. He was a special man who truly lived his faith every day. Whatever task he accepted, he did so with his heart and soul, never wanting acknowledgement as he believed that it was his responsibility to serve.
We were very blessed to have him with us for all these years and will miss him.
Thank you, Lodge. You will live in our hearts forever.
A special thank you to the staff from Grace Hospital, Holy Family Home and Misercordia, Cornish 2 for their incredible care.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue. For the safety of everyone, please wear masks. The service will be livestreamed from Korban Funeral Chapel's facebook page for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Lubov SSMI Foundation Inc.

  • My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Peter Fedun (Family friend) on: May 17, 2022

  • Will miss your gentle and kind presence and your smiling face. Amid many challenges, you were a rock of support and a daily reminder of God's presence. It was a privilege to be able to minister to you and to be ministered to by you. I always considered you and Jean to be special friends. I am grateful that we were able to meet and talk last September. Thank you also for the loving kindness shown to Dad and Mom these last 3 years. Remember me and them before His Divine Mercy. You are one of His beloved disciples and will surely inherit a crown of everlasting glory. Царство Тобі небесне, Володжу + Христос воскрес! - Posted by: Rev. Athanaius McVay (friend and former parish priest) on: May 14, 2022
