John passed away peacefully at Simkin Centre at the age of 90.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Alvin (Kitty Leong) Quiring, Hedy (Ron) Paslawski, Del (Shereen Farrell) Quiring, Frances Giesbrecht, Walter Quiring; twelve grandchildren, the initial being Bruce (Cat) Bonneteau, Rachelle (Ryan Pasuta) Bonneteau; eight great-grandchildren; brother Frank, in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his wife Kathy; in-laws, Robyn and Marie Hull; sister-in-law Ruth Wiens; twin granddaughters, Katherine and Annette Bonneteau; son Roland; and parents, Johann and Agnes (Wieler) Quiring.
John valued family, and was so devoted and dedicated to Kathy that he should be the role model for all marriages. For as long as possible (11 plus years), John visited Kathy at Simkin Centre every day to feed her supper, read devotions and give her mini massages into the evening. John worked as a draftsman for Manitoba Hydro until his retirement in 1993. In his spare time, he built the houses that we lived in. As an avid builder, woodworker and Mr. Fix-it, he would help family with projects where his perfectionism would shine through. He loved to solve problems and got excited if he had to make a jig. John loved speed skating and started the Fort Garry Speed Skating club with the five Quiring children becoming the first members.
A special thank you to the dedicated healthcare staff at Simkin Centre (Simkin2) who provided care to John for the last several years through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please pass on the Quiring family loving kindness to one another and consider a donation to Simkin Centre or Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) who helped John in his arduous move from the Ukraine to Paraguay and finally Canada.
Dad, to pass on your love of wood-working, together with your grandson Bruce, we have created and dedicated a wood working shop for family and friends to use.
A private family burial took place at Green Acres where he was laid to rest beside his beloved wife Kathy who passed away February 16, 2021.
A Celebration of Life for both John and Kathy will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
