Peacefully on May 6, 2022, Gail Dobbin passed away under the kind care at Beacon Hill Lodge of Covid 19.
She was predeceased by husband Mike in July of last year, and parents, Herman and Margaret Stokes many years past.
Gail leaves her children, John, Suzanne (David), Jim (Kerrie), as well as sister-in-law Marg, and grandchildren, Tom (Anna) and James (Karly).
Gail was born in Winnipeg on May 8, 1938 and the first in her family to go to university. Married in 1963 to Mike, she worked at Air Canada until 1965 when she stopped to raise three children. She worked marking papers and at school libraries and volunteered extensively. Returning to full time work, she headed the office of the United Nations Associations and had part time work as CE secretary at Westworth Church as well as high school driving teacher.
She and Mike were 52 year residents of River Heights who loved their neighbours and were well known in the community. Gail was passionate about her sorority Alpha Delta Pi, travel and had a library to rival the best.
Gail had a decades long involvement with Westworth United Church and was on various committees and regular UCW clubs and went on church - lead European tours. They were passionate about their beloved Jets and bombers and were long time owners of dogs. Family camping/holiday trips featured prominently and trips on riverboats with church friends in retirement. She loved the theatre, PBS and going to Garwood Grill.
Gail was committed to education all her life.
In lieu of flowers, we would love to purchase books to school for libraries. To be part of this project you can send a gift in Gail's memory to Books - Dobbin Family Fund, The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 - 1 Lombard, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3.
A memorial at Westworth United Church will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)
Gail, you were a unique friend! Memories of you as a teenager: lying on your Stauffer vibrating couch (guaranteed to take off weight), except you were eating popcorn as you rested on it; snapping open little chocolate bottles of liqueurs and merging the contents; hastily stapling together the hem of an unfinished skirt so we could dash to see the movie "Vertigo"; living in a tent on the bank of the Red for a time---along with the Stauffer and all your sterling flatware; driving all the way to Gimli for coffee; grabbing an electric razor to take pills from a wool sweater long before fabric shavers had been invented; and on and on. We always had a lot of laughs, didn't we?, and (amazingly!), became mature, sensible, and responsible wives and mothers over the years. I won't forget you. - Posted by: Marnie Webb (Friend) on: May 20, 2022
Dear Dobbin family, Gail's energy and positive outlook on life was uplifting. Her effervescent personality was always in evidence and together with Mike formed valued friendships. Our back lane chats spanning 45 years, were always enjoyable. Gail and Mike were so proud of their family. The way you all pitched in to support both Mike and Gail during these last few years was no surprise to us. You did everything in your power just as both Mike and Gail knew you would. Egyptians say before you get to heaven you are asked 2 questions. Was there joy in your life and did you bring joy to others? Gail and Mike have both these questions covered, Our condolences Barbara & Gavin with Brennan & Laura - Posted by: Gavin Smith (neighbor and friends ) on: May 15, 2022
