MARY E. STURNEY
(PEDERSEN) (nee JENSEN)

Peacefully, and with loved ones present, Mary, age 96 years, passed away on May 4, 2022, in Winnipeg, MB.
She was predeceased by her first husband Niels, daughter Gloria, son Keith, parents, Thomasina and Henry, brothers, Tommy, Walter and Carl, and beloved dogs, Cheetie and Sandy.
Mary was born in Denmark and immigrated with her parents and older brother Tommy to Canada as a small child in 1928, where they resided on the Jensen family farmstead in Atwater, SK. At 16 years old she left the farm to work as a housekeeper, until she enlisted in the WACS (Women's Army Corps Service) during the Second World War when she was 18, where she remained until the end of the war.
She resided in Regina, SK for a brief time after the war before moving to Winnipeg, MB and furthered her education by finishing her Grade XI. Mary achieved her Bookkeeping Certificate immediately after her military service, and spent many years working as a Bookkeeper with Johnson and Higgins Insurance Agency, retiring early in 1980.
For 22 years Mary was married to and widowed by her first husband Niels, having two daughters, Gloria and Glenda. She previously had a son Keith (nee Donald James Jensen), who was adopted in 1947.
Mary was married to Albert for the last 42 years (second marriage), and they enjoyed many years of travelling through Canada, USA, South America and Europe both by car, bus and various cruises. They always made a few trips each year by car with their dog Sandy, hauling newly built furniture in the trailer, out to BC where Gloria resided, to visit and do some house remodelling. Mary very much enjoyed many times spent together with Gloria, and helping her family with many creative ideas and projects. She was a very loving, giving and devoted mother and wife, showing much patience and understanding to others, and always put her family first.
Mary was always a very creative and artistic person, and was able to devote more time to her many arts and crafts activities when she retired, including sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, needlepoint, furniture making and refinishing, and porcelain and china painting. She also spent many hours researching her family's history and family tree through archive records and contacts in Denmark.
Mary was very much loved and cherished by her husband Albert and daughter Glenda, her sisters, Carla and Lillian, and various nieces and nephews, and she will be dearly and forever missed by her family.
If desired, family and friends could choose to remember Mary with a donation to their favourite charity.
A small gravesite service for Mary with family and friends will be held on June 9. Further information can be obtained at: Email: gapmb4@mymts.net
