CATHERINE DIANE BARNSLEY
(MCLEAN)
June 18, 1949 - March 20, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Barnsley (McLean).
Survived by her husband Lyle, son Robert (Amy), grandsons, James, Matthew, and Joshua and their mother Nancy, daughter Christa (Daniel) and grandson Bergen; sister Mary Lynne (Len) and nephews, Doug (Gail), Michael (Meghan), and Gordon. Catherine was predeceased by her mother Mary Ruth McLean (Stronach) (2009) and her father Ronald James McLean (1966).
Born in Winnipeg Catherine spent her younger years in River Heights, growing up on Oxford Street and attending Montrose Elementary School. She then moved with her family to Dauphin, Manitoba graduating from Dauphin Collegiate High School. On July 25, 1970, Catherine married Lyle at Westworth United Church where together they spent many years as dedicated members. A lifelong learner, Catherine's career was filled new experiences and many friendships. She worked for Manitoba Hydro until attending the University of Manitoba (U of M) graduating from the Faculty of Human Ecology. Catherine worked for School Division No.1 implementing a breakfast and food experience program at Margaret Scott Elementary School, contributed as a Researcher at U of M and worked for Grace Hospital in the Nutritional Services department. Always dedicated to the service of others Catherine spent the last 12 years at the United Church Halfway Homes as a Bookkeeper. She always spoke highly of the organization, her colleagues, and the work they accomplished together.
Above all Catherine valued family and the many close friends that became family. She loved to garden, share a new recipe, and finish the crossword puzzle before her sister. Known as Nana to her grandchildren they will miss her hugs, baking, perogies and deviled eggs.
We thank everyone for their love and support and would like to acknowledge the care and compassion of the staff at Health Sciences Centre in CancerCare and Neurology.
A memorial service will be held at Westworth United Church on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception at Sir John Franklin Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, we welcome, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or to United Church Halfway Homes. Make a donation to
