NELLIE (VAL) IRENE MALLEN
April 17, 1934 - May 12, 2022
Peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital, our beloved Mom/Grannie passed away in her sleep in the early morning hours of May 12, 2022. She was truly the center of our family and each of us loved her dearly with all our hearts.
Val leaves to mourn her four children, Corinne (Jim), Trent (Tarina), Leslie (Ron) and Linda along with grandchildren, Aaron, Marshall, Jenna, Alyssa and Tessa and great-grandchildren, Lillian, Logan and Leevi. She is also survived by sisters, Eila, Helen and Sheila and numerous nieces and nephews. Val was predeceased by her parents and her husband Richard (2006).
Our Mom's super power was her interest in absolutely everyone she met and her wonderful sense of humour about herself. She was a fashionista extraordinaire and loved socializing with young and old.
Mom's life gave us many gifts: a quiet acceptance of life's journeys, unshakeable faith in humankind, sisu, a sense of humour and above all the love and value of friends and family.
You were a good Mom.
Flowers gratefully declined, donations to Harvest Manitoba would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 17 between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on the 17th floor, 135 Niakwa Road (Appleton Estates Apartments). Please join us to celebrate our wonderful Mom's life, stay for a light lunch and please dress up in her honour!

Alain and I both feel so privileged to have met Grannie on a number of occasions through Jenna and Leslie. She was engaging and funny from the second we were introduced. It was easy to see that she loved and was interested in people of every age. It was also clear to see how much her family adored her and she them. Our sincere condolences go out to her entire family and her many friends. You were so fortunate to have had her in your life. We know you will love her and miss her well! To the family of Val Mallen, I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was a very kind lady. She had called me that she's coming over and I told her no, no I'll come it's too far but she insisted. We had a good visit, we had a drink together and she spoke fondly of her family. May she RIP. - Posted by: Loreen Kenyon (Friend ) on: May 21, 2022
