ALLAN LABUN

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Allan Labun on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
Allan was born on September 18, 1935 on his parents' farm in Plum Coulee, Manitoba. He trained as a teacher and taught for 11 years at Sisler and Elmwood High Schools. He married Irene Koop and spent three years teaching in Binatang, Sarawak in Malaysia. These experiences stayed with him the rest of his life. At the encouragement of his congregation, Allan entered the pastoral ministry and attended the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary where he obtained a Master of Divinity. He was the pastor at McIvor for 18 years and also served in many other churches. Throughout his years as a pastor, he was always excited and humbled to see God at work.
Predeceased by his wife, Irene Labun, he is survived by his children Theresa (James), Donna (Scott) and Jon (Nina); grandchildren Anna, Jordan, Willem, Danielle, Micah, Marcus, Peter and Georgia; siblings Norman (Marilyn), Kathy (Dave), Don (Kathy) and Peter (Vi).

We are grateful to the staff on A4 at St. Boniface and Jill at the Seven Oaks Day Hospital for their compassionate care.

The funeral service will be held at McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church on Tuesday, May 24th at 11:00 am. Viewing prior to the service. The family strongly recommends that masks are worn during the service.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Allan was my pastor at McIvor MB for 5 yrs. He was one of my key mentors growing up. Only now have I been able to process the effect he had on me growing up. Allan was special. He was the first Christian leader I had who had a sense of humour and a gleam in his eye. He was the first spiritual mentor who was able to step back and allow the HolySpirit to work. In numerous Bible studies when a question came up and we'd turn to him for the answer he would reply, "lets read the passage again." He allowed the Spirit to direct us and not present himself as an answer man. Absolutely lead by God and a huge example for me to get my grubby hands off controlling the situation and allowing enlightenment to happen. He was famous for speaking at our level, My sincere condolences at loss of this kind and caring human being, RD Chilliwack,BC - Posted by: ronald John dick (friend) on: Jul 16, 2022
