JOESEPH (JOE) MICHEL SCHMIDT
February 27, 1960 - May 16, 2022
Joe passed away on May 16, 2022.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Frances, his two older sisters, Mary and Margaret and many members of Debbie's family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Debbie (nee Keeley), his daughter Margaret Wiltshire (Mike), his grandchildren, Myrddin and Rinoa, his brother Andy (Lucy), brothers-in-law, Brian (Esther) and Hugh (Linda), sister-in-law Sylvia, many nieces and nephews and cats, Bo and Ribbon who gave him much joy and company.
Joe was born in Barrie, Ontario and moved with his family to Winnipeg in the late 1970s where he met many friends who shared his love of both fishing and hunting. He also loved cycling, NASCAR, the Winnipeg Jets, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and going to classic car shows. He spent most of his years working in autobody shops and was very good at his job.
He faced challenges in his life including finding out in 2008 that he had MS and in 2012 he had a stroke that left him in a wheelchair but he maintained a positive attitude and appreciated life.
He will forever be loved and remembered. Thank you to family, friends and medical personnel through the years who supported us, it is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Joe has been cremated and we will be having a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June 7 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Red River Community Centre at 293 Murray Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
