MARVIS MARY SIGURDSON
(LYTWYN)
Marvis Mary Sigurdson (Lytwyn), 84, of Winnipeg, passed away suddenly on May 26, 2022. Marvis was born on March 31, 1938, to Marvin and Beth Lytwyn in Winnipegosis.
Marvis' father was involved in commercial fishing on Lake Winnipegosis so Marvis and her siblings, Spencer, Steven, Torri, and Gary, spent many summers on the docks watching the fishing boats off-load their catches. Often they would catch a ride on the freighter "Myrtle M" up to Channel Island to visit family and friends. Marvis and her siblings lived the life of Tom Sawyer boating on the Mossy River, fishing, and sun bathing at the Winnipegosis beach.
After Marvis graduated from Winnipegosis High School, she went on to study to become a Lab and X-ray Technician and worked in Winnipeg, Beausejour, and Portage la Prairie.
In 1960, Marvis married her high school sweetheart, Thor Sigurdson, in Winnipegosis. Marvis and Thor moved to Portage la Prairie and in 1962 their first son, Ryne, was born. Later that year they moved to Glenboro where in 1963 their second son, Kaol, was born. In 1964 their third son, Kardi, was born.
In 1967, Marvis and family moved to Emerson where they made their home for 34 years. Marvis worked as the secretary-treasurer for the Town of Emerson until her retirement. During those same years, she did bookkeeping for Emerson Duty Free.
Marvis and Thor began square dancing in Glenboro and it wasn't long before Thor took up calling. Marvis was always at his side, helping to coordinate and set up dances. For over 50 years, Marvis and Thor danced with various clubs and attended numerous national and international square and round dance events.
Marvis and Thor enjoyed their retirement years spending winters at their place in Mesa. Marvis' other interests included playing bridge, knitting, crocheting, and doing needlework. Most of all, Marvisenjoyed spending time with her sons, grandsons, and great-granddaughter.
The passing of a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother is always heart breaking but realizing Marvis is leaving behind her wonderful children, grandchildren and great-grandchild to carry on her legacy is comforting.
Marvis was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Thor; brothers, Gary and Steven; and grandson, Kevin.
Marvis is survived by her sons, Ryne (Shirlee), Kaol (Sherri), and Kardi (Michelle); grandsons, Darrell (Kat), Dennis (Mariane), Tyler (Jian), Blake (Ally), and Geordi (Melissa); great-granddaughter, Sunny; her brother, Spencer (June); sister, Torri (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron (deceased) and I danced for many years Thor and Marvis called many of the dances we went to. Marvis was a super help if any one had difficulty with the call in square or round dances, she would go over and help the person and guide them until they were able to do the call. Great people, both Thor and Marvis. - Posted by: Val Brown (Square dancer from !enora. Many years dancing to Thor and Marvis.) on: Jun 08, 2022

An anecdote about our life when we were kids. We exchanged holidays in Winnipegosis and Sifton. Marvis came to Sifton one year, and we kids picked some wild strawberries. My mother made perogies that day and included the strawberries in 6-8 of them - we didn't have a real lot of the small wild strawberries but to say they were delicious in perogies would be an understatement. It was a real rare treat. However my mother said we boys were not to have any of them, because we have had a taste of them on previous occasions, and this was a special treat for Marvis to enjoy. The reaction of Marvis remained with me, from the time I was a kid, forever. Marvis said she would be more than happy and wanted to share them with the boys and insisted we do. A very simple thought, and act on behalf of Marvis, but one that I remembered all my life. Sorry to hear the news but my condolences to the family. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Orville Heschuk (Cousin) on: Jun 04, 2022
