JEAN (GENIA) SHYMKO
January 11, 1929 - May 26, 2022
On Thursday, May 26, 2022 our beloved mother, baba/grandma and great-grandma peacefully passed away at the age of 93 years.
Mom is survived by four children, Wayne (Patricia), Kelly (Deb), Glenn (Jennifer), Bonnie (Rod); ten grandchildren, Ryan, Lisa (Brian), Garrett, Christopher (Terri-Lynn), Adria, Mark (Nicole), Kelsey (Todd), Danika (Tanner), Hannah (Yulian) and Darian; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Ryker, Brady, Wade and Haven. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen (Joe) Dutchak, Irene Boitson, Emily (Bill) Evans, Olive (Eugene) Ulasy, and sisters-in-law, Olga Maleski and Martha Shymko. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, parents, Michael and Teresa Maleski, her siblings, Stella, Joseph, Sidney, Pauline and Ann.
We, her family, have all been reminiscing about Mom over the past few days and feel so thankful to have so many priceless memories with her. She had a soft and caring heart with a hilarious sense of humour - her laugh was infectious. She was always adventurous and somehow had never-ending energy, even into her 90s, to bring our family together for unforgettable dinners. Family, food, faith, and her Ukrainian heritage became the pillars of her life and she was passionate about each. We already miss her dearly but know she's already probably causing mischief with her siblings, parents, and husband up there!
The family sends their thanks to Dr. Irena Darczewski for the many years of care. Gratitude is also extended to the staff at Holy Family Home who made Mom's final days comfortable and peaceful.
The funeral will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 3 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church (250 Jefferson Ave.), with interment at Glen Eden Cemetery (4477 Main St.). Pallbearers will be Ryan Shymko, Chris Shymko, Mark Shymko, Darian Picklyk, Devin Boitson and Yulian Zyakun.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation, in memory of Jean Shymko, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary School - Ukraine Student Relief Fund (supporting the educational needs of students and their families, that have fled the war in Ukraine), or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)
A classy lively loveable fun lady. I will always remember her unexpected encouraging phone calls after Linda’s passing.. May she Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Dan Regan (Jean was my late wife’s aunt) on: Jun 05, 2022
To all the Shymko clan and extended family. We are saddened to hear of Auntie Jeans’ passing but also know that she had suffered and struggled for some time. We know she is at peace and with those who passed before her. When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind. Remembering you all in thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Kerry & Ken Dutchak (Family) on: Jun 04, 2022

We were saddened to learn of Jean's passing. Over the years, Wayne and I shared many family stories. It became obvious that our mothers had similar values such as family, culture and community as well as a strong work ethic that propelled them into their golden years. Although we only met on a few occasions, the times we shared were met with warmth and open arms; virtues we will remember her by. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Shymko family and revel in the joy she brought to you and to all the people she touched on her remarkable life journey. - Posted by: Gil and Rose Emond (friends) on: Jun 02, 2022
