HUGH WILSON

It's with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Norman Wilson, age 71 of Riverton, after a stoic battle with cancer.
He is survived by his sister Elma (William) Kozub, brother Wesley (Tamera) Wilson, sister-in-law Marlene Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his father Frank Wilson, mother Laura (Wilson) Magnusson, stepdad Gudmundur (Mundi) Magnusson, brother Richard, and good friend Denny Stucky.
Hugh's life began on the family farm in Vidir. At age five he moved to Magnusville when Laura married Mundi. It was a happy childhood that included swimming in Lake Winnipeg and spirited games of football, baseball and hockey with all the neighbourhood kids joining in.
His working career revolved around heavy equipment and he was highly regarded for his operating skills. As a result those skills took him to jobs across western Canada, northern Quebec and the Arctic.
Hugh faced his illness with great courage and we never heard him complain. He had a wonderful support system and we would like to gratefully thank Cory and Angie, Ryan and Sigrid, Dr. Donnelly and all the wonderful home care workers who looked after him.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Magnusson, Sigmar Martin, Randy Palson, Cory Palsson, Ryan Palsson and David Vidalin.
Cremation has taken place and at a later date, Hugh's ashes will be interred next to his father Frank in the Vidir Community Cemetery with family and friends attending.

"Rest peacefully dear Bro"
There is no more pain.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Hugh's passing, I honestly did not know he passed away. Sincerest condolences. I met Hugh through my late husband, Denny Stucky. We named our son after Hugh, so he is Hugh Stucky. Hugh never got to meet Hugh, as it was very hard for all of us at that time, and Hugh never really came back to Victoria Beach after Denny's passing. I am sending all the family our condolences on Hugh's passing. RIP Hugh Wilson. Rhoda and Hugh Stucky - Posted by: Rhoda Stucky (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2023

  • Hughie was a very memorable and caring individual who loved life so much. I recall how much energy he had while in the 2-room school in Hnausa, and walking home on the railroad tracks Hugh was always hanging around with older students. He loved his older brother, Wesley, and loved his whole family very much. Even after his illness, he never complained and was courageous to the end. Hugh was a very colourful individual and loved to joke with others and was friends to all he met. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our condolences to his family as his family cared for him with so much love. - Posted by: Lloyd & Jeannette Roche (friends) on: Jun 04, 2022
