BARBARA CHARLEBOIS

A loving wife, caring mother, supportive sister and thoughtful friend, Barbara Ann Charlebois, left us early Saturday, March 28, 2022. She was at home, surrounded by her loving family: husband Richard and daughters, Lisa and Amie.
Throughout her five year struggle with CBD Syndrome (a neurological disease similar to Parkinson's) she had expert care from Dr. Michael Schlossmacher of the Ottawa Hospital Neuroscience Clinic. During the last two years of her illness, she received compassionate support from the teams at Bayshore Homecare and the Ottawa South Palliative Group. The dedication and warmth from these medical professionals made an immeasurable impact. The Charlebois family extends our sincere gratitude.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she leaves her only surviving brother William "Billy" Bruce, his wife Sharon and niece Shannon Koniski. Barbara met the love of her life riding the St. Vital bus into downtown Winnipeg. Richard and Barbara were soon inseparable, writing a 50 year love story that took them from Winnipeg to Calgary and then Saskatoon, where their two daughters were born. They finally set their roots down in Ottawa in 1984.
Barbara had a zest for life that burst through in everything she did. Her love of fashion meant she always had her best foot forward, even if it was wearing Crocs while working in the garden. She was a voracious reader, frequenting the library and searching her e-reader for every title, from the latest Churchill biography to fiction top-seller. Plus, she loved reading any newspaper. In fact, she would have read this very obituary, as she would dutifully comb through them daily. She enjoyed travelling, taking on adventures with her family from international journeys to cross country road trips, often ending in California to visit her eldest daughter. Growing up with three brothers, Barbara had a love of sports, watching everything from hockey (a Sens and Jets fan) to Canadian football (Go Bombers, Go Red Blacks) and golf. Barbara especially enjoyed the time she spent on the St. Lawrence river, relaxing most weekends at the family's recreational home in the Eastern Thousand Islands.
To honour this dynamic woman, we will be hosting a Celebration of Life at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, Tuesday, June 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
For those who wish to remember Barbara, in memoriam donations can be made to the Parkinson's Research Consortium. Flowers can be sent on June 21 to The Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club at 1 Hunt Club Rd., Ottawa, ON K1V 1B9.
