BROWN: Peacefully in her sleep, Ruth Margaret Brown (nee Burnett) passed away on April 12, 2022. Ruth was born on October 27, 1944, in Minnedosa Manitoba. She was the third of four girls. Audrey was the oldest, then Marian and Shirley was the youngest. Ruth attended school in Onanole, Manitoba. She married Elwood Brown on June 22 in 1963 and moved to Stratford, Ontario. A son Douglas was born in 1964 and daughter Lorie in 1965. They moved to Cambridge, Ontario in 1968 and son Dwayne was born. In 1975 the family moved back to Onanole to be closer to family and bought their house in town on May Street. While her family was young, life usually revolved around her kids and whatever they were doing. Watching hockey, figure skating and curling. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and traveling the countryside taking part in Poker Derby's. The balance of the winter was spent curling. Summers were full of baseball, fishing and wiener roasts. In 2005, Elwood and Ruth moved to Monterey Estates in Brandon, while most weekends were spent at Sandy Lake campground, golfing and visiting around the bonfires. After Elwood passed, Ruth took his place and along with her son Dwayne were faithful Brandon Wheat Kings fans. Ruth is survived by her daughter Lorie and grandchildren Eric and Ryan Hocking. She is also survived by sisters Marian, Shirley and brother-in-law Len and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Elwood and sons Douglas and Dwayne, parents Earl and Margaret, sister Audrey and brothers-in-law Melvin Hofdahl and Glen Mayor, in-laws Jim and Dorothy, brother and sisters in law Gerald and Verna, Richard and Connie Brown. A Celebration of Ruth's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday May 7th, 2022, with a dear friend Jeanne Gitzel officiating. A time of visiting followed at Monterey Community Centre, followed by a wonderful family gathering. Interment will take place later at Onanole Cemetery. Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws. Rest easy Ruth.
