NELL MARY MACAULEY
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on June 8, 2022, at the age of 105 years, 12 days short of her 106th birthday.
Remaining forever to cherish Mom's memory is her son, Bill Macauley (Karen); her grandchildren, who loved Nanny-Mac very much, Shaun (Lee) and Eireann (Daniel); and great-grandchildren, Laine and Aelin Macauley. Mom will also be missed by niece Julie Marlow and nephew Philip Smeall.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry in 1984; her parents, John and Juliana Smorten Pollock; and siblings, Stan, Millie, Jean and Jessie.
Mom was born on June 20, 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the second youngest of five children. She graduated from Kelvin High School and worked for Eaton's and later for Office Overload as a comptometer operator. Following the Second World War, she met Harry Macauley and they were married on June 25, 1947 in Riverview United Church in Winnipeg. In the 1950s, she became a charter member of the Daughters of the Nile, and enjoyed many events beside Harry who was a Shriner. Nell became a life member of SPHINX Temple No. 116 in 1981.
Her greatest joy was her family, and since her parents and sisters all resided on Carlaw Avenue, family gatherings were frequent, especially Christmas with the kids and presents being pulled by sleigh from one house to another for celebration. With the birth of her grandchildren, Shaun and Eireann, she looked forward to having them over at her house and cherished her time with them.
We will miss and love her forever and feel very blessed to have had her as our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her commitment to family and consideration for others.
A celebration of Nell's life will take place this summer. She will rest in peace, beside Harry, in a niche in the Good Samaritan wall at Chapel Lawn.
Our family wishes to thank the caring staff on Level 3 at Misericordia Place.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Mom may be made to Great Pyrenees Rescue Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
