URSULA BERTSCHINGER
(nee BEYER)
September 5, 1941 June 13, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ursula Bertschinger on June 13, 2022 at the age of 80 years old.
Ursula was a loving mother to Mario (Tracy), Rico (Deneen) and proud grandmother to Aaron, Brie and Breck. Also left to share their loss is her sister, Erica.
Ursula was predeceased by her loving husband, Emil, in 1988.
Ursula was born in Essen, Germany on September 5, 1941. She moved to Canada from Germany at the age of 18. Ursula chose Winnipeg because she had aunts, uncles and cousins already living here. Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg she enrolled in an English class, and this is where she met the love of her life and future husband, Emil. A few years after they married, they settled into St. Vital and raised their family.
Ursula was an avid sports fan, cheering on her two sons at their sporting events, (usually hockey). She was a loyal Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan as well as a Winnipeg Jets fan, and would never miss watching a game, unless it conflicted with her grandson, Aaron's televised hockey games. His games always took precedent.
Ursula loved to travel and has many friends and family all over the world. This is how she developed a large following on Facebook. It started off to keep up with her family in Europe and her friends in Kenora, where she resided during the summer. This expanded to include many friends in Barbados and Florida where she spent her winters. Ursula also made many lifelong friends in the various groups on Facebook she belonged to. Text Twist and the Eagle Chat Group were two of her favourites. Her sense of humour, kind words and quick wit will be missed by many.
Back in September Ursula celebrated her 80th birthday with close family and friends. A month later she suffered a stroke and a heart attack. Being the strong and determined woman she was, Ursula fought back for the last eight months to regain her independence.
The family would like to thank Pat Duke and Keanna Bronk, Ursula's close friends, for their many visits and overall support before and during this difficult time.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Grace Hospital 4 South, for the care that was provided to Ursula in her last days. Thanks to the many friends, who reached out during these past eight months with cards and warm wishes.
A private service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Ursula may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Friends and family are welcome to share stories and sign the online book of condolences at ejcoutu.ca.

I first got to know Ursula about 9 years ago on the Hornby Island eagle nest website We were all so fascinated watching "Mom Hornby" laying eggs, and then the hatching, and then watching the eaglets being nurtured until they finally flew from the nest. When I realised that Ursula was the only other Winnipegger in that chat room, I introduced myself to her in person, and we became friends very quickly. She was always very good to me, and even welcomed me to her holiday place in Barbados several times. As with everyone else, I will miss her humour and the cartoons she posted. She had some tough times in her life, including health problems. After several surgeries she still suffered with pain. I'm so glad she is relieved of that now, even though I will miss her terribly. RIP Ursula. Pat - Posted by: Pat Duke (Friend) on: Jun 20, 2022

When Ursula heard that we are from the Netherlands she came to visit us twice with Erica. One time in our village called Soest. My youngest son was at home and was fond of meeting up with Ursula. She made pictures in front of our house. The second time she wanted to meet us but their was no time for visiting us home. Erica drove her to the city of Arnhem so we could meet up halfway. Gerard and me travelled to Arnhem with train to meet up with them in the neighbourhood of trainstation. At first Gerard didn't know that Ursula was German speaking. So when she asked in Gargoyles chatroom if someone had a recipe for pfefferkuchen as her grandmother made it. Gerard found a German recipe and started to translate to English with the help of another member of Gargoyles. When I told him that Urusla was German he laughed and sent the original recipe to her too. - Posted by: Loes and Gerard van Brienen (Friends from Textwist Gargoyles Chatroom and later Facebook Text Twist group) on: Jun 20, 2022

We had the great pleasure of moving in beside the Bertschihgers in 1983 and were neighbors for over 10 years. Ursula quickly became a dear friend and we spent many a hour together having great conversations and lots of laughs. Ursula had a wonderful sense of humour and such a dry wit. She would laugh at me daily trying to control my Labrador whom never stopped barking. I would be screaming out my bathroom window at him and I'd hear "how are you doing Kim". and we would laugh. She was such a wonderful person and this is such a sad loss to her family. Jim and I and family send hugs and our heartfelt sympathy ❤️ to all of you. Cherish those memories, so sorry to hear this news. You had a wonderful Mother and she was loved by all. Take care, huge hugs - Posted by: Kim Kelly (Friend) on: Jun 19, 2022

I am so saddened by Ursula’s passing. She was a very kind yet witty chatter at the Whitney Rock eagle site. Everyone there was happy when she entered the “ room”. I did talk with her via the phone a couple times. What a sweet lady! My condolences to her family, and all who knew her. - Posted by: Bonnie Barber ( Eagle chat friend) on: Jun 19, 2022

We shared many experiences together on line and I miss her deeply. We chatted daily on FB about all sorts of things. Fly high my friend, I got your farewell fly by message in the form of a golden eagle fly past when I was out walking the day after you passed. My deepest condolences to all her family. I loved Ursula’s incredible wit and sense of humor. She brightened up our chats and our FB Friend’s ‘Therapy Sessions’. I had to be careful not to have taken a sip of anything before reading her comments! A Bright Light for many! - Posted by: Linda Dunne (Friend (Eagle Chat)) on: Jun 17, 2022
