BRIAN ROSS MOIR
March 10, 1947 - June 4, 2022

Born in Winnipeg, first son of David Ross and Edna Mae (Hallatt) Moir.
Brian worked most of his career for the Manitoba Department of Justice and made an important contribution in creating Manitoba's mental health court system. Brian had many accomplishments. The one of which he was most quietly proud was his 45 years of sobriety marked just shortly before his death.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, his older sister Judy McLaughlin, and nephew William. He and his wonderful sense of humour will be missed by brother Andy (Christine Callaghan), and sisters, Rita (Dan Armstrong) and Donna, family and friends in Winnipeg and Minnesota, and his beloved cat Amara.
There will be a memorial service at a later date. Cropo Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • For over 25 years, Brian would send me an anniversary card and for Christmas a holiday cd with either Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, or all of the above. Of course his cards had multiple stickers and stamps. It was always exciting to open up one of his cards. Enjoyed our monthly breakfasts with my sister Sandra, Sandra Kmet and Brian at chicken chef. A Kind man with a big heart. Rest in peace Brian. - Posted by: Linda Lafontaine (Friend and co- worker ) on: Jun 22, 2022

  • I am sorry to read of Brian's passing. My sympathies to his "people". He was so good at staying "in touch" with a handwritten letter or Christmas card and reaching out for a coffee chat. I regret losing touch as the years went by. - Posted by: Sandy Stalder (from VGH days) on: Jun 20, 2022

  • Even though we divorced in ‘86, we’ve remained in contact these many years. I have many fond memories of our many conversations, be it our mutual cats; the state of Manitoba Health Care; the state of Wpg streets; politics and the World going to Hell; the Golden Years not being so golden after all; but my fave memory is of all the crazy, wonderful cards he always sent to my Mom on her birthday, at Christmas, for St Patrick’s Day, etc every single year. It became an event she looked forward to because the envelope the card came in was covered with cute & funny stickers. She looked forward to sharing the card & the envelope with her friends; her mail was quite a hit with the mailman over the years, too. Thank you Brian for brightening her days. Thank you for being kind & not holding a grudge, ever. Rest In Peace sweet man. 💕 - Posted by: Megan Maxine MacBride (Brian’s favourite ex) on: Jun 20, 2022

  • I worked with Brian at Probation for 35 years, my most memorable story… One of my clients called me sobbing, she was given notice of fines and eviction, if she didn’t cut her 8by8 patch of grass, she had a newborn and no Means of obtaining a lawnmower. Brian, whose office was next door, Said no problem at lunchtime I will go home and pick up a weedwacker, Lol, he likely owned ten of them!! We headed over in Brian’s truck, he cut her grass, we donated a couple of canvas lawn chairs. Brian was always advocating for those in need. It was a privilege being his friend. RIP my friend - Posted by: Sandra Kmet (Coworker ) on: Jun 19, 2022

  • Brian and I shared many text messages all hours of the day or night and I was the first to know the weather warning bolo police bulletin and interesting political or news updates. He knew every sale at Princess Auto where he will be sorely missed, Giant Tiger, No frills and Peavey Mart. He didn’t buy just one sale item he’d buy a few more just in case. We’d meet for a Breakfast at his Sals or monthly breakfasts with Sandra, Linda and I swapping Christmas gifts and sharing stories about probation. Every birthday a card full of stickers arrived in the mail or a Pepsi just one can on Valentines Day (our inside joke…) A few months ago two gifts ‘just because’ arrived- Check your mailbox he texted… He was so good to his neighbours snow blowing at least 10 houses this winter each snow fall he did each house without hesitation. I knew I would get photos every Christmas and summer of his yard filled with blow up Santa’s and lights or baskets and baskets of flowers. Grumble grumble he’d write in a text at the high price for flowers this year maybe I’ll get artificial at Dollarama but then he’d buy them anyway. He loved to display his decorations. Amara was his companion to the end. But he had a great love for family those here and those lost. And he cherished many former colleagues that he maintained regular contact with until his sudden passing. We love you Brian my heart breaks knowing you are not in your truck just a text away listening to CJOB. - Posted by: Sandy Lafontaine (Friend/ former colleague ) on: Jun 18, 2022
