FRANCES E. WILSON
(nee BAINS)

Frances E. Wilson, peacefully at the age of 102 with her family near, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.
She will be deeply missed by her two children: Janet Blake (Michael) and Joanne Manning (Brian); grandchildren: Jonathan Blake (Erin), Adam Blake (Kendra), Joanna Blake, Aynsley Dore (Andrew), Christopher Manning, Graham Wilson (EmyLou), and her great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Wyatt Blake, and Jackson, Meadow, Lylah Blake, as well as Garrett, Adrian, Joelle Dore plus nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph Wilson (1980), son James Wilson (2007), as well as her brother Jack Bains, and three sisters, Elsie Low, Janet Stimpson and Lou McComb.
Mom was born March 17, 1920 in Cromer, MB to Florence and Jack Bains (of Notts, England). She attended school there until her father's passing at which time her family farm was sold, they lived in Virden and she then moved to Winnipeg with her mother and siblings. Upon her high school graduation, having attended Linwood School in St. James (where Jonathan now teaches), she attended Business College and then worked at National Grain Co., Winnipeg, Safety Supply Co., Toronto, Ashdown and Wholsesale Office, Saskatoon. She met her dear husband Ralph at Brathwaite Pharmacy, where he worked as a pharmacist. Mom developed her love of swimming, spending summers at Star Lake, Moose Lake, and then Clearwater Bay on Lake of the Woods with family. Teaching swimming then became her passion as she taught for over 20 years at the St. James Civic Centre. In her youth, Mom enjoyed ice skating and became an enthusiast particularly in speed skating. Mom was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church for 65 years where she served faithfully in many areas including hosting the Bible study in her home for 25 years and organizing and cooking church Thanksgiving dinners. During this time she made many cherished lifelong friends. She enjoyed sewing and crafted several wedding gowns and attendant dresses and quilts for her family. In her later years, she knit many hat/scarf/mitt sets for schools to distribute to children in need. Mom will be remembered for her beautiful smile, spontaneous laughter and sense of humour, her grace, style, and family dinners. She was the spiritual pillar of our family and was an example of love, kindness, and graciousness to us and all she met.
Special thanks to Brightwater Senior Living of Tuxedo who cared for Mom with compassion, dignity, and respect.
A Celebration of Life will take place on August 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Attendees are asked to please wear a face mask for everyone's protection.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to Bethel Baptist Church, 205 Roseberry Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 1T3.

  • My mom, Bea Attree met Frances at Sterling House where they both lived on the 3rd floor. I think they found an instant bond. Like minded in so many ways. They looked out for each other as time went along. My mom passed last September at 104. She has no doubt welcomed Frances to their new adventure. Bless them both for lives very well lived with grace, humility and a gentle sense of humor. Sincerely, Wendy Koberstein - Posted by: Wendy Koberstein (My mom was a good friend of Frances) on: Jun 18, 2022
