MARTEN WILLEM DUHOUX
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marten Willem Duhoux, age 49, on June 9, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer.
Marten was born on April 21, 1973 to Christien and Bert Duhoux-Rueb in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. After graduating from Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar he spent one year abroad at Goshen College, Indiana where he met his future wife Joanne DeFehr. Marten and Joanne married in 1994 and moved to the city of Delft (Netherlands) where he studied architecture at the Technische Universiteit. After graduation Marten and Joanne moved to San Francisco and he began his career as an architect at a small firm at Oakland, California.
While living in California their son Feiko was born in 2000 and their daughter Agnes in 2003.
In 2004 Marten and his family moved to Winnipeg, Canada. He started working at Friesen Tokar (now FT3) and became partner in 2011.
Marten was passionate about music and serving in his community and church. He was an active board member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Green building council and served in many other organizations in various capacities. He was a member of River East Mennonite Church.
Anyone who knew Marten knew that he was the most loving father, husband, son, big brother and uncle a family could ask for.
Marten is survived by his wife Joanne; his children, Feiko and Agnes; his mom Christien, his sister Corine and her daughters, Sanne and Christa.
He will be missed by many.
It is Marten's wish that any donations be made to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
There will be a celebration of his life on June 29. Details to follow.
