IRENA JADWIGA FRIGO

Holding her beloved husband's hand, Irena Jadwiga Frigo, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed from this world on the morning of June 15, 2022.
Irena was born in Walcz, Poland on April 8, 1947 to Katarzyna and Henryk Kozlowski. She immigrated to Canada in 1965 at the young age of 18. With the loving support of her Aunt and Uncle, Ann and Peter Gudziunas, Irena embarked on the happiest journey of her life.
Irena met the love of her life, Giovanni, in 1968. They married in 1970 and soon welcomed into the world three children, Teresa, Peter and Martin.
Irena spent her working years at Jacob Crowley Manufacturing, Paulin-Chambers and St. Paul's College at the University of Manitoba where she made many lifelong friends.
One of her greatest achievements was completing her Grade 12 education (GED) and also graduating from the Culinary Arts Program at South Winnipeg Technical College where her passion for baking, chocolates and cake decorating blossomed. Irena also loved to work with all her fellow students and was an inspiration to many of them.
Not only was Irena passionate about the culinary arts, she enjoyed many other creative endeavours, especially embroidery.
Irena was very much involved in Winnipeg's Polish community. She was a passionate leader for Polish youth education and was proud to share her love of Polish culture with her children and community.
Like a sun beam on a summer day, Irena shared her joy with everyone. She is survived by her loving husband Giovanni, of 52 years, children, Teresa (Ben), Peter (Shannon), Martin (Beth) and grandchildren, Dimitri, Julia and Amy. She is also survived by her sister Anna Grecki, and niece Lillian (Alex), grandniece Catherine and nephews, Darek and Andrew (Suzanne).
She was predeceased by her parents, Katarzyna and Henryk Kozlowski, aunt and uncle Ann and Peter Gudziunas, brother-in-Law Andzrej Grecki, and grandson Jeremy.
Prayer Services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Bobola Parish, 541 Marion Street with burial at St. Boniface Cemetery, followed by reception at the Coutu Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.
